jim doesn't need to measure the arc lenghts and the angles.

all he has to do is mark his starting point and then walk in a straight line for 10 kilometers, then from that point, he takes a 90 degrees turn right that he measures with a straight piece of wood that he places perpendicular to the direction he was coming from. this will allow him to turn 90 degrees right.

he then walks another 10 km in the direction he turned, once he's done walking that 2nd 10km, he uses the same procedure to turn 90 degrees right and continues to walk another 10km. now, because the earth is round, he will arrive at his starting point which he marked at the beginning of his journey.

if the earth was flat, he would have arrived at the fourth vertex of a square which misses an arc between the first and fourth vertex as opposed to arriving back at the first vertex of the "triangle" he formed doing these two right 90 degrees turns

 

As Shite is a country based on the Equator, it has the same day length each and every day right at the equator. However, if the day length (time between sunrise and sunset) was measured at the southern most point of Shite, directly at the equator, and at the northern most point, each one would be different. If the Earth was a flat plane then the day length would be the same everywhere regardless of the tilt of the plane, on a sphere the tilt of the sphere affects the day length at certain positions on the sphere making the day length change. Which assumes that the Earth does have a tilt for this experiment to work, bit of an assumption but most planets have a tilt from what has been seen, but it should be known to even shitians that days seem longer as they go away from the equator if they have any source of information.

well, normal triangles always have had 90 degrees angle (1), they are called rectangle triangle.

This however is a spherical triangle. That is kind of the point i'm driving at, if you come back to the starting point after making only 2 turns (90°) then you formed a triangle, but that also means that the sum of all angles in this "triangle" is over 180°.

if this triangle was on a flat surface, this would be impossible as "flat" triangles can't have a sum of their angles greater than 180°. we then have no choice but to see that it is indeed a spherical triangle since the sum of its angles is > 180°

 

that's not fair you change the variables along the way.

what if i was to assume that jim chose a region of 'whatever-the-hell-the-name-of-his-country-is' where it was flat land and no rivers to cross or mountains to climb. Then my test would work

 

Jim and the overlord could sit by the seashore, even if they don't see a ship go over the horizon. The edge of the Earth would have to be just a few miles away, and there's no way that the entire, circular world would fit inside the circle that the ocean horizon seems to make.

If that doesn't work, they could look into the sky at night and spot a planet with a telescope, they look round, and all bodies of enough mass tend to be speherical by virtue of "isostatic adjustment" Why would earth be an exception?

well since this dry lake bed has a diameter of at least 150km ,

he could start from the center of the lake and do what I told him to do in the beginning.

After turning twice to the right with 90°*angles, he'd get back to the starting point, proving he drew a spherical triangle thus proving that earth has a spherical shape
