How to deal with double imposters?

So recently, I have been getting imposters on skype which have a skype name similar to mine.

I asked my friend to add them and offer the imposter on my rs3 account sale, 300M rs07 gp.

The imposter said sure I can do 300M 07, my friend asked for a PM on sythe and gave his sythe profile link.

10 seconds later I got a skype request from a random skype asking for my account and if he could purchase it for 300M but would like a PM first (and linked my friends sythe account.)

As you can see, this scam is really hard to see as if the buyer is not paying attention he'll STILL get a PM from the trusted person but he's actually talking to an imposter.

Things I do to minimize this;

- I usually don't post my skype, just a direct link to add me on skype
- I copy paste the skype chat (Hopefully if it is a double imposter scam, they'll realise.)

Is there anything else I can do to avoid this scam? I would like to hear what you guys do for extra safety.

I take a screenshot of the full Skype conversation including their Skype.

 

I send them a form, or ask them to fill out a forum if we're talking on skype and someone requests a pm

have them fill that in. It shows who you are, who they are, and the exact conversation. This way instead of sending a pm like "hi, talking on skype" which is ambiguous, and doesn't prove you're talking to each other, you can prove who you're talking to and about what

If they trade any other RSN, then they didn't read it. Sad to say, but that's on them.

 

Wow, thats quite clever.

I guess the only way around it would be to copy-paste actual skype conversation, but again that would still be up to the buyer, most probably they would be naive and not even care about the skype conversation lol.

 

I ask them to private message me our skype conversation and their skype ID in the end.

 

I've seen cases where someone pulling off a double imposter scam was able to replicate the skype conversation exactly, so just sending a part of the convo won't be sufficient. On the first line of the PM (following one of the formats above), I would just put a big bold message restating your skype ID and asking them to doublecheck that they're talking to the right person. From there it just comes down to the other person needing to be aware of what's going on.

 

Yeah I was recently false-banned for the double-impostor trick. You can't do much but add something along the lines of "CHECK MY SKYPE ID" in big bold red letters at the top of each PM. Sometimes buyers don't even read the pm and feel safe knowing they simply got one. Just my three cents.

 

Add em and bully them till they stop.

Make new skype and make imposter accounts yourself (But don't use ofcourse, put something like "fake" or "don't add" as name.

Also big letters on top of every pm saying "make sure the skype conversation text matches yours"

You can also search the skype id of the guy requesting a PM on google and make sure the guy requesting the PM is owner of the Sythe account.

 

Be warned that I have seen double impostor scams use the exact text that you're using, e.g. if they get an add saying "hey, is the acc still for sale?" the first thing they'll send you is "hey, is the acc still for sale?" Then the exact wording you use will be what they send back. So it's important that you also put skype names in the PM.

That guy didn't even ask for a PM. (Please note that I NEVER have my skype shown on my threads, all are "click to add" buttons.)

Some people..

 

Send a section of your chat then put below it your skype, their skype, the trade value and any other details that you might need to include. I've never had any troubles with that.

 

Or can ask them to Pm you their skype id on sythe.
