Have more scrutiny with the Sythe Verified User

Today, I was scammed by a verified user with the tag during my first deal ever on Sythe. He was banned before I could report him (still reporting him in the morning however). This should never happen.

Although the rank is still considerably difficult too obtain, just because someone has an active market somewhere (for example, this person did a lot of CS:GO sales) doesn't mean he is trusted or "verified" in any way. Someone trusted or verified would be someone for example, a member of the community a staff member has known for a long time.

Rather, since these forums are fairly labeled, there should be verified "seller" ranks for certain sections. It is a given that someone who is verified will probably not scam but there is still a chance. Meaning it is my fault and I should have gotten a middle man, regardless clearly there is not enough scrutiny when handing out the rank. That's poor management and ownership which can easily be fixed.

A blunt rant by a sincerely pissed off user.

The 'Sythe Verified User' rank should not be viewed as a trustworthy rank. I can understand that the title is misleading and I believe there is a suggestion inside these forums so as to change the title or remove the rank and reformat as a minirank. I'm unaware of the current situation of that suggestion, but will try and pull it up for you.

I can understand the misconception but trust should never be determined lightly. All that it takes to obtain the rank is to donate $25 and then provide Sythe with some personal information (including a verification phone number) which will then be "verified" by you entering the code which was txt to you - hence the name sythe verified user.

RE the suggestion you made for the other ranks, this won't happen. There are ranks already in place and are extremely difficult to obtain. Such as that of 'Highly Trusted', which is owned by some ~4 members on Sythe. Other ranks to determine trust can be OMM or Moderator but anything else (even high donor ranks) should be heavily scrutinised. Trust is an objectionable trait.

 

Whether verified or not verified, one must always take initiative to safeguard your transaction, regardless if the person you are dealing with has several vouches or have a SVU rank.

No amount of ranks or vouches can certify that the person you are dealing with will not succumb to greed. You just have to be extra careful when you are dealing next time.

 

This has been suggested time & time again, every suggested solution either requires some complex coding system which is on the list of 10,000 things to do before sythe dies.

It takes an insane amount of staff team time to manually approve something.

And tbh it should definitely be accepted, (the thread has been going on for months with a shit ton of support) im surprised that it has not been accepted yet. There are literally people who buy SVU just to scam newcomers that don't know any better. Instead of blaming the newcomers how about we blame the shitty SVU system.

This thread is the perfect example of what is wrong with SVU. People misconstrue it as a system that gives out trust, when that's not what it is at all. They see "verified" and equate it with trust.

I don't think SVU should change its requirements; rather it should strive to communicate its purpose much better, through more accessible explanations (what if the SVU rank hyperlinked to a thread explaining it?) or a rebranding (avoid words that can be equated with trust, such as "verified").

Miscommunication is the main problem here.

 

There should be levels of verification... which has been suggested too. But meh, no development done in ages.

 

"Identity verified" or something like that would be better.

"Verified user" in my opinion does signify trust.

 

Being a SVU doesn't mean that your identity has been verified. It means Sythe has logged a phone number which is useless in case of prepaid phones. It basically means nothing.

 

I like the idea behind SVU but the ranks being abused, when its listed in thread titles and touted by members as a rank of "trust" it becomes one to those less informed....

A simple phone # isn't verifying much of anything .
