Reporting For Duty, from S.Korea

Hey guys, I haven't been active here for a while so most or none of you will remember me. I thought that I'd drop by to say hi in a place where 90% of users are younger than my join date.

All joking aside, I've joined the S.Korean army (home country) and I am closer to North Korea than home. Our battalion specializes in intelligence, our company specifically on spying on North Korea.

We have a bases up here that pick up radio frequencies from North Korea and directly watch them with TODs. Not sure what they do exactly, but I guess that they're equipped with cameras with lenses that can see up to miles away?

We say "white skull" when we salute, and our insignia is a skull. That's kinda cool I guess

I thought that I'd start a small Q&A session about my work to get to know you guys, so any questions?

I've always wondered why would you want to spy North Korea? What's the whole point?

Also is it true that the people in S. Korea tend to suicide a lot?

 

Very serious. We also have a UAV company

They've made thousands of provocations, have actually attacked our country, so we need to pick up on what they may be planning.

And yeah, S.Korea has the highest suicide rate among the OECD nations.. All that studying, high expectations from parents and suchputs us under a lot of stress, yeah

That's cool, is this part of the mandatory military service?

How are you liking the army? Do you agree with conscription?

 

I think that I remember you, I think that you were active either in the market or general discussion section. Didn't you have a rank?

It's better than I anticipated. The food's better than I've thought, the facilities are great and so are the people. No I don't agree with conscription, non-officers and non-NCOs are paid very poorly and don't get as much freedom as soldiers in the states. but I understand why our country needs it..

 

Have you seen or rescued any refugees since you've been stationed?

Did you join voluntarily? If so, what were your reasons for joining?

 

Refugees barely ever cross the border directly, it's not very long and there are soldiers stationed everywhere. They usually hop over to china, travel all the way down near Vietnam and take a plane from there. In case you were wondering, all I ever see these skinny soldiers do is farm, play basketball or volleyball and go skinny dipping. It's fun when you see car struggling to go up hills and soldiers getting out to push
