Which Political Party Are You Affiliated With (US)

This thread is not to flame each other, but to explain why you support a specific ideology in the political world.

None, politics bugs me. Prefer to just not bother with it much.

 

Dang too bad the world runs on politics eh? Better not concern yourself with how literally every important decision is made!

 

I vote for president. My state is California. Regardless of who I vote for, it's highly likely the vote will go to the democratic runner. I vote at the state level. One extra vote will not skew the votes. I vote at the local level. The closest vote we have ever had is around 80 people apart. Again, my vote will not change that.

 

I live in one of the most liberal cities in the nation (Seattle) but I am a moderate republican.

 

I don't really consider myself to be any specific one, more like a mix of all. I don't really care much about politics itself or what the government is doing, unless it's way off the top ridiculous. Like trump, I could careless about him unless he actually becomes president which I doubt he will.

That's how a lot of people think. "Again, my vote will not change that." When you have 6 out of 10 people in USA not voting, then yeah, it won't matter, but if all of you didn't think like that then your opinions would have substance and your votes could be deciding factors. The amount of voters for local or state ballots tends to be even worse, sometimes around 8 out of 10 people not voting.

 

I consider myself an independent, but I follow the political theory of a social democrat.

Based on the general premise of "my vote does not matter", you're wrong. When massive amounts of people are not participating, voting results are often skewed. You can see this whether you look at the amount of people disenfranchised due to serving prison time, or by looking at off-year elections. During off-year elections, millennial and democrat as a whole turnout is lower, effecting the results of said elections.

Now regarding what Dun is saying, there are plenty of situations where voting really does not matter. Due to Gerrymandering and horrible re-districting, many local/state elections are fought out in the primaries. Outside of the primaries, the general election will often go uncontested, or there will be a 70-30 split, a scenario where your vote truly does not matter. Why should a democrat/republican vote when the district is so skewed it is nearly (if not) impossible for a win.

The poll options should really be changed. Most of these don't make any sense/aren't political parties. For example, liberals and progressives are almost the same thing, and furthermore liberals, progressives, conservatives, etc. aren't political parties, they are political affiliations. There is no "moderate republican" party, there is the Republican party.

But to make my answer clear, I am a Republican.

 

Any action that requires the participation of the masses requires that people, well, participate. Voter apathy is a disease - in the most recent Canadian election, only 60% of the nation voted federally and that was a record high. Where are the other 40%?

 

Socialist

 

Libertarian. I like the principles of the party.

 

I'm unaffiliated.

 

Sixty thousand people with this mentality meant the state of Florida and its 29 electoral votes going towards Obama instead of Romney last election. Sixty thousand out of a population of 20 million.

 

Republican

 

Obama got 5 million more votes than Romney did. The only chance Romney had was pulling a Bush v Gore and winning very narrowly in a couple of important swing states.

The democratic party has consistently won the popular vote for the last decade, the GOP is relying on stifling the vote and being able to win districts (hello the likes of gerrymandering) opposed to the people's vote.

Hell, look at the last congressional election. The GOP gained an exorbitant number of seats in the house, yet they still lost the popular vote.

generally i vote as a moderate liberal. would more likely vote for a democratic candidate but wouldn't have a problem voting for a reasonable conservative one in the years to come. ultimately i don't think it matters very much who we elect and that social norms play a bigger role in governance than the actions of a single person or leading party
