    http://calgaryherald.com/life/swerv...wn-of-olds-for-its-gigabit-age-internet-speed

Basically, a small town (population: 8500) called Olds located in Alberta, Canada, decided to start their own ISP called O-Net, and offer fibre optic internet services that give speeds up to 1000 megabit up and 1000 down at a price as low as $57/month (if bundled with other services). Their internet speeds rival Google's internet service as the fastest in the continent.

I thought this was super cool. I live about 2 hours away from Olds, and I'm paying about $50/month (bundled with TV) for 30 megabits down and something like 3 up (just did a speedtest, and got 29 down and 2.6 up). I would really like to see what the average download speed would be on speedtest.net for O-Net.

Yeah man. I dream of this stuff.
I pay over $300 a month: Cable, Internet (50mbps down/15 Up), and home phone

    It's sickening.

I dream of google fibre. I dream of it lol.

For the time being, I just get my awesome speeds from servers.

Yeah I feel you. I'm just that guy that is too lazy to use the computer sometimes... Even with chromecast. I need that availability of my premium channels. Not to mention the fact that I have 2000 channels, and nothing good is ever on. Our generation is clearly fucked.

My university did this this year too, last year the internet was real slow (~2mbs down, 100 kbs up) because of the amount of traffic. They started their own ISP and revamped the infrastructure in most of the buildings, so we're sitting pretty at 100mbs down, 90 up. And that's WITH high traffic.

Paying $99.99 for TV and Internet, I am located Extreme Northern, WA (about 45 min from Vancouver, BC) via Century Link (Xfinity). Here is my speed:
[IMG] - LOW Speeds (Everyone in house using internet, ~10 devices total)
[IMG] - Moderate Speeds (Me while I'm playing xbox)
[IMG] - High Speed (I'm the only one on the internet)
[IMG] - Back to the Low
The contract is a 2 yr contract and the price is $99.99 a month for 24 months. No hidden fees or shit (so far :p)

The unfortunate thing about your plan is, yeah download speed is great, but upload speed is what defines a good, cost effective plan. Without upload speed you wouldn't be connected to the internet, with just download speed.

57 dollars? That's at least 20x better than my internet and the bill is like 80 dollars a month here.
