After life?

Does anyone ever think/wonder what happens when you lay in peace/die. I know it's not something you should pay attention to at a young age.
I still am quite curious how there is no answer.
Your thoughts?

 

Personally, I used to think about the after life and where do we go after we die. I guess after we die, our thoughts disperse. We leave behind the vessel that we once controlled or lived in and well, we become nothing. There is no more independent thought anymore. You will become one with whatever lies on the other side.

 

Well I guess it'll be slightly overcrowded if you calculate the amount of individual/unique souls there will be there. If you're talking about re-incarnation then I guess it's possible for you to be in control of another body regardless of what species it is. However, until then. We'll be in an imperceptible blackness with no knowledge, consciousness or feeling. Which will instantly arrive at your next place, from your perspective. Even if the next place is never and is an infinite loop of nothingness, we'll instantly perceive it.

 

I'm a scientist more-or-less so the thought of an afterlife is silly to me. It's funny though, because recently my grandfather passed away and my mind seems to prefer the idea that I'll get to see him again someday in some grand reunion at the end of my life. I'd like that, but just because I like the idea doesn't mean I believe it's real. Unfortunately it's a foolish concept. I wish it were a real thing, though. I'd love to see those who've passed away in my life again.

 

Sorry to hear about that your grandfather, You just have to wait and see. I hope there would be a reunion .

OT: As comforting as it is to take to the ideas that religious and spiritual organizations and figureheads have propagated throughout the centuries in regards to eternal life after this one, it seem far-fetched at best in my honest opinion. Let us briefly examine why.

Our consciousness/mind as we know it is an extremely complex result of millions upon millions of neurological and electrochemical processes in all regions of our brain. Thoughts, speech, actions, emotion... all products of the most powerful and intricately complicated system that we have ever discovered: the human brain.

Now, let us consider Occam's razor, which in its most reductionist form states that the simplest and most logically obvious answer is often the correct one.

Now, which seems more likely to you?:

A) You die, but some form of elusive consciousness that exists independent of the human brain that science has been unable to discover for thousands of years flies away off to some magical existence somewhere off in the depths of the Universe for eternity

or

B) You die, and the consciousness you have been experience also stops as a result of the brain no longer operating.

 

i think you just die and go into nothingness. not like you would know anything happened. that's what i think

Eternal life in the after life.

 

I don't believe in afterlife; I think it's just wishful thinking.

 

I believe in reincarnation, and that we're set int this world to find our purpose or reach a higher understanding. When we die, I guess we're reincarnated into the world again to fulfill our purpose; given a second chance.

 

Even though I'm christian, I believe in reincarnation.

Anyway back on topic, I believe in no god and follow no religion, I think everybody has a fear of death buried in them somewhere and religion is to just help cope with that.

 

I am far from a scientist so my terms will probably be way off. I guess I believe reincarnation to some extent. Do I believe I will be reincarnated as another human? I believe the chances of that happening are extremely low. Matter or energy or whatever leaves your body when you die never disappears (or does it?). If the first human was created miraculously by matter/energy, what is to say I won't be recreated also? Can be anything though.. turtle.. plant..
