Rare miniranks to promote thread creation

That's simply false, I already described why I'm not too excited by the idea. And it has absolutely 0 to do with wanting more miniranks out there.

You can already hide all participation miniranks in the user center. This does nothing for people who want to have less miniranks.

I agree the current participation miniranks are a bit random. But this suggestion doesn't necessarily replace participation miniranks or really have anything to do with them.

 

I agree with this. I don't think we'll see any benefits from this if it's on thread creation since you're incentivising making a thread but not actually being part of a discussion.

 

Discussion comes naturally to thread creations. Look at general discussion for example.

 

im all for this. i feel like there are like a billion miniranks we talked about making and never got around to. this would encourage people to suggest more ranks so that we can all win them! it also boosts the minirank market which is kinda non-existent as is

logistically speaking, maybe just make it a flat percentage, say 0.5%, and apply it to all forums where post count is gained. the reward could be a prizebox tied along with a pm that says something like "congratulations, you've been awarded a minirank for your (post #)th post on sythe! thanks for participating in the community!"

then people can compare their posts/time between posts/whatevers and it adds a bit more fun to the whole thing

as for the spam issue people are brining up, govind recently added a tool that helps us catch serial spammers, and this seems like THE perfect application for his tool. some minor tweaking might be in order, but i think we have it covered. also you guys are pretty good at reporting posts so im not concerned about that aspect of things

 

I'm fully supportive on this, but it could promote useless spam topics.

 

That's what mods and the reporting feature are for, I doubt it'd become an issue

 

Sounds like a great idea in my opinion.

 

Using mini's that aren't widely circulated is probably a better option. The more we add the more redundant they become from what I see.

 

I like the idea, barring misgivings I have about it encouraging spam in non-spam forums. I will ask Richard.

 

I love this idea, but I think it should be extended to regular posts as well. (Which would have a much lower chance of awarding a minirank than thread creation).
I also believe the market should be excluded from this.

I'd have to agree with this general idea, although I'm skeptical on "all forums".

I believe this would be helpful to the newer forums that have been created as well, within enticing posters to those sections.

If anything... if it all goes wrong, and it just does majorly promote spam, minus reporting posts, and Govind's tool, it can be scrapped?

 

i don't think spam is going to be an issue with this in place. and we can do like 0.5% for posting in all forums that give post count and 1% for thread creation. or richard can hide the true values and keep us guessing. but i like the rest of my idea.

 

Even if spam does become a problem, that's why we've got moderators. I'm not saying that lightly either - I was a mod for 4-5 years. The extra work would be marginal.

Hiding the true value is a great idea - it would promote creating a thread when you have an idea for discussion but otherwise wouldn't, but it would discourage spamming thread creation just to try and get that minirank.

Not sure that it wouldn't discourage spamming but regardless having the value a secret is actually a really good idea. But again, spamming is essentially irrelevant considering there is a reporting tool, a team of moderators, and apparently Govind's made some kind of tool to catch spammers so there's that.

 

Not sure if it works lol. There has been a string of vaders that will post on 5-10 07 goldselling threads saying they're interested in like 100m 07, then post on 5-10 rs3 goldselling threads saying they're interested in like 200m rs3. Then they post and do their thing in other sections.

 

I support. There's no reason as to why this wouldn't be a good thing imo
