Pest Control for Slayer = Waste of Time?

Coming up on 300/850 points for full void.

While mostly afking PC, I've been researching BiS gear for range as far as slayer tasks go.

It seems that range armor (dhide or arma + slayer helm) is far superior to full range void in every case except undead tasks, where void + salve (e) is best.

Now, there aren't even that many undead slayer tasks.

Am I wasting my time getting full void? I'm getting so tired of playing this game, I'm looking for someone to say "yes it's a waste of time, work on getting your slayer helm imbued and go ahead and spend the points on XP"

Thoughts?

I literally only do slayer nowadays, it's the only thing I enjoy doing in the game. I'll never use void for non-slayer purposes.

yes it's a waste of time, work on getting your slayer helm imbued and go ahead and spend the points on XP

 

You may as well get void as an alternative for those undead tasks, plus you have full void so that's always a bonus.

 

If you don't already have void, I wouldn't bother getting it if you're only going to be using it for slayer. I think slayer helm (i) and arma is better for most tasks anyways (also considering you can't use void for some tasks).

 

You're almost half way to void already, you might as well get it for the undead tasks.

 

Def finish void there's tons of other stuff you can use it for.

Don't spend points on xp lol

Eh, thankfully I got enough support to counteract this opinion. I felt the same way but eh, if I can afford arma I don't see any reason at all to have void. I have 0 plans to PK or do a lot of bossing or anything on the account (and wouldn't bosses be best suited for arma anyway?)

I see what you're saying though and one day I might go ahead and get it, but it took me two days of "fairly intensive afking" to even get 300 points although I wasn't losing very often. Additionally, it only worked out to be about 15k xp/hr even though I was actively targeting monsters and the portal that is weak to range and commonly getting 600+ dmg per game.

So, no pest control basically. I'm tired of doing it It's a fun mini game, but not when you spam 150+ games..

There's not that many undead tasks anyway. The undead tasks that there are, are, well, just a task. Seeing how few undead tasks there are I don't think the advantage of void and salve (e) is all that much. I regret spending 300 points here.




To everyone:

Any tips for NMZ for low combat? I just need to be there long enough to imbue my slayer helm and maybe a berserker ring.

50 attack
60 str
50 def
65 range
50 magic
60 hp
50 prayer

Quests I've done: Not sure off the top of my head, but I tried doing it once and I got the monster from Merlin's Crystal (120 troll), elvarg, the level 120 dogs (name escapes me), and elvarg..so it looks like I already messed up as far as quests go. Am I pretty much required to get a booster person to dream for me then?

 

For NMZ I'd get all the quests required for MTD Dream and have someone host you, use rune arrows with an msb and the best range gear you can afford.

The quests needed for the MTD dream are...
-Mountain Daughter
-Tree Gnome Village
-Fight Arena
-Vampire Slayer
-Lost City

 

The only reason you'd really spend pest control points on slayer for is if you're a skiller, or some form of hp tank, or something. Otherwise, it's a complete waste, and I'd recommend just buying void. If you want to train slayer without training it, try Soul Wars.

 

For just farming points, quests like rfd, desert treasure, and dream mentor have great bosses, but I'm guessing you don't have those done. Try making your own rumble dream and see how it goes; if it's too hard just go with a demon booster instead. As far as gear goes msb should be good enough, or you could maybe grind out 75 range first and use a blowpipe then if you're willing to do that.

 

Void for pking bossing etc, slayer helm (I) and dhide beats void really hard on tasks it isn't worth getting for slayer but if you don't have helm unlocked use void till you do

 

well .. your almost half way i would just get it. plus you can use it for bossing and PK'ing if you want. it's good to have. get it!

 

Slayer is best to be trained by master tasks or skill lamps if you can get your hands on them.

Pest Control is too slow to get a decent experience rate from.

 

Sorry for the late reply everyone. Just wanted to update anyone that tried to help me out: I ended up reaching about 82 slayer with all types of gear available to me including imbued things. Around that time I started getting more serious about my essay-related business (writing several things for clients I know in real life) and therefore started to play Runescape less and less. I haven't played in several weeks.

Getting Fallout 4 was the nail in the coffin. I know people around here say this all the time but I really do think I'm permanently done with Runescape now.

 

i got 5000 points in pc. I dont understand how people get bored after 300. I mean all i do is run in, attack 2 monsters, afk for 2-3mins. Repeat. Nobody told you to run around chasing the portals or protect the knight, there are alot of people who will do that.

Now i will say that i have lost a few games where we could have won if i had not afked. But thats a price you have to pay for being afk.
