Do you consider wrestlers athletes or entertainers?

Do you consider wrestlers as athletes more than entertainers? Or is it the other way around?

 

Both I guess. I'm pretty sure they were all athletes in one point of their lives. Mark Henry was a strongman, while Brock Lesnar was an actual wrestler. I don't really know their backgrounds but I'd just say a bit of both if you do enough digging.What they do in the WWE is entertainment, not wrestling in my eyes. This is assuming you're talking about those kinds of wrestlers.

Well if you consider bodybuilders atheletes and strongman athletes then you have to assume they are athletes as well. Regardless real or not what they do still requires stamina.

 

Olympic wrestlers of course athletes who work very hard.. But those wwe wrestlers are just actors.

 

Well athletes are entertainers. Not the other way around though, so I wouldn't say that people in WWE are athletes. I'd agree that the normal wrestling is a sport so they're athletes

Obviously they all exercise and lift, but the actual WWE itself is purely entertainment

Olympic Wrestlers, of course. WWE, not at all just looks like a bunch of guys on steroids.

 

I tend to use the term Gymnasts + Actor = WWE

Some of the high flying moves remind me of gymnastics. However the people that don't do any are solely actors and maybe fitness models in my opinion.

 

Olympic wrestling or the true sport of wrestling is one of the craziest sports out there. It probably requires the most patience and drive. Most other sports encourage drinking lots of water, eating lots of healthy food. Wrestlers/mma people literally starve and dehydrate themselves to make their weight category. I've never wrestled cause I don't enjoy touching other sweaty men but they're still athletes.

 

I consider them both to be honest. some of the shit they do is pretty impressive and you need to be pretty fit to do some of those things. and they're entertaining as hell to watch

 

I think they are both...because they still are athletic and have to be moving around and staying fit to be able to keep up, and they entertain in the process..win win!

 

They're both imo, like Skelitorus said, they'd need to be fit and they would also get hurt quite alot even though the show is fake because many things could go wrong.
The other month a wrestler died (not in WWE) from having a heart attack in the ring whilst he was fighting Rey Mysterio. So personally, i consider them as atheltes and entertainers.

 

All professional sport is a form of entertainment. Wrestlers are no different - they must also be physically fit as well to do what they do.

 

Olympic wrestlers are definitely athletes. As for WWE wrestlers, I guess it's questionable.

I googled the definition of 'athlete' and Wikipedia says: 'An athlete (American and British English) or sportsman (British English) is a person who competes in one or more sports.'

Is WWE a sport? I'm sure there are factors that could make one debate whether WWE is a sport or not, but I personally don't consider it one. I'd call them entertainers instead.

Not informed well enough to have a valid opinion, but from what I've seen they seem to just be entertainers.

Not sure if it's wrestling, but I've seen a lot of them where the two obviously have the fight scripted out. Then it's not even a fight...Just for entertainment.

 

Good point. It does really depend though, there's thing's like grappling and things like WWE, which are much different

 

Its clearly entertainment, but There is some physicality involved.
