Requirements for full/drastic username changes

Yes, however not exclusively on such platforms. A lot of this stuff is absolutely standard on non-vBulletin forum types.

 

What makes Sythe so good to use is that it isnt a carbon copy of other forums

 

My thoughts on this are:
-Must have 2+ years without TWC/Unban/Pardon.
-Must have 2FA enabled.
-Must be SVU.
-Must have been a member for 2+ years.
-At least $100 donor.
-No vouch or post requirement.

 

To be fair, optional features are rarely a bad thing.

 

While i agree sythe is deff lacking in being up-to-date, i think most things are just restricted due to the high amount of scammers etc. i mean if someone could change their name and thread titles easily. newfags who don't know the inner workings would have even a hard time gathering evidence of a scam. /shrug


None of this really concerns me i just lurk for the most part nowadays, we had a fellow he tried to improve the site before but it went south.

You'd think, but most of sythe seem to have the opinion of things like "omg can change thread title = scammer heaven" but it's just never the case anywhere else. It's like the NRA over here where the solution is 'more guns' rather than no/less guns (which has historically proven to be the answer in Australia and other anti-gun countries).

As for the "no pardon" suggestions people are placing, I thought the word pardon meant to excuse somebody or to forgive them, putting a 'no pardon' clause on this is basically pardoning with a condition which was removed ages ago.

 

I go by the saying, just because your pardoned by staff, does not in essence mean you're pardoned by the community.

And anyways like Ghast said drastic requirements for drastic change.

@Super, you would know more about the report situation, so I think i should of defined it to open reports*.

 

It should be graduated based on the need. For usernames determined to be entirely useless or inappropriate to one's position, require less to make the change. If it's something trivial, like a perfectly acceptable username to someone's IRL name, require more.

For example, sh4rky77 would require less for a full change. But MohtasaUnique to Tony would require much more

And of course a few base requirements for safety. As stated somewhere in this thread, I'm sure, a year or two of no bannable offenses (temp or perm) would be most important. It's already policy with staff, but just to be thorough: required to have "Previously known as ____" in the usertitle.

 

I don't agree with a high post count for this. Wouldn't that encourage spam?

I think it should just be a high donor rank + no current reports/twc.

$200-$300 seems fair for the donor. If someone wants their named changed that bad, they are already a sythe donor or can just make a new account and SRB the old one?

i think a maximum of once ever would be more appropriate. and as for scam reports, i think this should be decided on by staff. there are reports that are seriously detrimental to one's reputation, and there are ones that are spurious.

i have always been pro-crowdsourcing, but i suppose we could ask the community "would XXX's name changing to YYY be okay with you?" - obviously in a little more structured manner. this will get shot down though

I made this account back in 2007. I've changed, my personality has changed, and I feel like after almost 10 years I should be able to change my name from something childish to something more formal.

 

I posted this before, but here we go:

1) You have been a member of Sythe for at least 5 years.

2) You are a donor of at least $200 (or $300)

3) You have a PPD count of at least .5

4) You have not received an infraction for at least 12 months, no bans within 18 months

I think this way it rewards users who have been loyal (5+ years) to Sythe, as well as rewarding their activity (PPD) on the site and good behaviour (no infractions within 12 months).

 

I never got my name changed though. Also my stance was either super strict regulations or not at all .

A lot of people aren't objectively setting requirements. They're selfishly setting ones within reach of themselves.
