If you became rich, would you be selfless or selfish?

If you became rich, would you be a selfless or a selfish person? Be honest.

 

I would help out the people who have been good to me, loyal and such things, as of right now id help two persons and pay off their house loan.

 

A good combination of both, which is the cycle I currently go through. There are periods of weeks where I am incredibly stingy with my money, followed by weeks where I'll throw money on anything that even catches my attention

 

It's impossible not to be selfish, especially when you're rich. I'm not the flashy type, so I'd definitely give money I don't need to a good cause.

 

Selfless but only to my family. Id setup businesses and other ventures that would allow them to live off the money forever.

 

I'd be pretty generous, I'm a very modest and frugal person by nature. Money isnt all that important to me as long as I have the basics covered. I'd probably join the peace corps and use my skillset (carpentry) to help those less fortunate, I'd love to travel and actually give back.

 

It would depend how I became 'rich'. If I won the lottery one day I would probably feel more obliged to give away money because no effort/skill/talent went into earning it. However if I was rich off of my own hard work and being persistent then I would still give but probably not as much.

 

This isn't really a black or white kinda question so I would be in the grey area.

I think I'd be pretty selfish, but supposingly, I'd spend my money on good and useful things that this society lacks

 

Id definitely invest my money but would also help out some friends and family.
Maybe check out go fund me and find people worth donating too. But when you have all that money its hard to say whether you would actually be selfless or not.

I can relate to this due to own experience, not in real life but in runescape. I used to love giving away bonds, cash even a few rares back when I used to stake. I'm guessing I'd be the same irl, so my answer would be selfless (zw long as I got everything I want.)

 

For those of you who are answering that you would give money away, you should be acutely aware of this.

 

Yep. Coming from a cc that does constant giveaway promotions, you get tonnes and tonnes of beggars, who only care about the money you're giving away.

 

When we did 5b drop parties, etc, people afterwords would be furious that they hadn't received as much free stuff as they wanted and flame you for not giving away more money. This wasn't a rare occurrence either, nothing can satisfy a beggar. I think the only people who glorify generosity are those who have never given, and only received.

 

I would try to be a bit of both. Probably more on the selfish side.

 

As i heard a lot of stories about nba players who were selfless and borrowed money for 40 people and ended up with nothing... So i think i would be little bit selfless and selfish too - there should be balance.

 

^ This. It's always good to help out people who aren't as fortunate as you, but do it sensibly imo.
