I saw the thread further down regarding the American federal election happening in 2016, what about the Canadian federal election happening in October?

Honestly, I'm personally for anyone but Harper. Mulcair came off as a bit of a sketchy weirdo in the last debate so I'm unsure about that too. Otherwise I guess that leaves Trudeau who is pretty wishy washy on what he believes (backtracking on his support for bill C51). While calling himself naive was a good step, imagine having someone like that as a federal leader: "Oh sorry didn't mean to go to war with you I take it back".

At the end of the day I'll probably still vote Mulcair + NDP. What about everyone else?

Same train of thought with you. Depending on how the polls go I'll vote for either Trudeau or Mulcair. My vote isn't really for any of those candidates, more like a vote for whoever I think has the best chance in my riding of beating Harper out. Historically, it's been the Liberals so that's probably the way I'll go.

If I could vote (can't because of my American Residency) I'd probably vote for NDP. Haarper is Harper, Trudeau is a big no especially after all of the C-51 shit. Shame that elections have to be order of elimination but it seems like the only option.

Anybody but Harper. Yes it would be in my best financial interest but due to his lack of care for the environmental and overall deceitfulness I just can't vote for him.

The problem that i have with the NDP here is that they want to raise the minimum salary to $15/hour. Let me make up a story here so you can see my concerns which a lot of people sadly don't understand.

Lets say john is working at mcdonalds and is making $10-11 bucks an hour and the NDP comes in and raises the salary to $15 an hour typically what your manager or supervisor would be making, now that is a 47% increase to your salary. Now the supervisor/manager is going to want to have a 47% increase as well in their salary because the new guy just got a huge raise. Instead of making $15 an hour they'll want $20 now.

Lets take a smaller company here and not a big one like mcdonalds, lets say we got "Johns lawn care" he has 3 guys working for him they each make $10 an hour and because of the NDP comes in and they'll be making $15/hour. For the company to surive they will have to FIRE one of guys to stay in business due to raise and this problem here will cause the unemployment rate to go up because here in Alberta i've seen a lot of smaller companies having to shut down already.

And NDP is killing this provice, they're taking away the oil profits what this god damn province thrives on.. We all know that the price of oil right now here is a record low..a whopping $31/ barrel the damage NDP is able to cause in their 4 years will take 20 years to recover from-

The $15/hr wage raises aren't right off the bat. They're over like 5 years and take the cost of living and inflation into account. Hell 15 CAD is literally one dollar more than minimum wage where I live in the U.S. after currency exchange and everything costs twice as much in Canada. By the time it's set at $15 it will be LESS than minimum wage here. And you're right, that manager should be getting $20.

And NDP was elected in Alberta what, 3 months ago? How do you expect them to pick up an entire economy that's been shit on by Harper and oil price manipulation for the past ten years.

The minimum wage here in Alberta is around $10.50 or something as of now, and by october 1st they want to raise it by $1 and within 3 years they want to be up to $15, companies wont be able to keep their staff with these raises imagine you get 10 guys working for you and they all get a 47% raise that is a few hundred thousand more every year to pay in wages as of now i make 50k a year and in 2018 i will be making 75k a year

So one question, as an American. How pointless are your elections? I couldn't give two shits who will be elected here in 2016, because nothing will actually be done, and we'll still spend into oblivion, allow illegals to run rampant, and fuck everyone with taxes.

US is too far down the rabbit hole.

How's Canada? I'm actually seriously considering immigrating because of how much i'm starting to despise my own country.

47% raises don't apply to the upper end of the payroll. You're seeing it as a percentage rather than a value. You'd likely get an additional 5 dollars an hour rather than another 47%.

Holistically speaking if minimum wage does go up businesses will just find a way to counter it. Charging more for their product/service is just one of the obvious side effects. Unemployment is another.

I've seen the commercials and from what I've heard about him, I don't really want him to win.
That being said, just know I know absolutely nothing about whoever else is running. This year will actually be the first where I'm able to vote so I don't even know who I should vote for lol.

Shouldn't base your opinions on the commercials. Of course they will be cherry-picking the least likable aspects of Trudeau to showcase, and all politicians have a few of those aspects.

Make an informed decision and make sure you know about all 3 (or however many major ones there are in your riding) candidates before casting your ballot!
