Need help with dual monitors

Hey everyone I recently purchased:
Windows 7 Dual Core Desktop PC HP Tower 3.7GHz 8GB RAM 1GB Gaming Graphics HDMI

Yes I know nothing very special but it's enough for what i do.

I have very little knowledge about computers etc, yesterday i bought a second monitor and i don't have second VGA port & I'm wondering will VGA splitters will work for dual monitors setup?
I've did some research and few people said that VGA splitters just clone their monitor screen etc, heard something about needing to upgrade their graphics card etc etc.
Wondering if any of you guys have similar experience and such, please share them if VGA spliiters will work with my setup, or I'll have to return the monitor i bought

 

Check what other outputs your Graphics card has, it you can connect a hdmi in one slot and vga with other it would still work fine.

Although if your GPU only have one output. I'd recommend getting a new GPU

 

Yup i do have HDMI port & i believe i will need to connect the VGA splitters & the HDMI at the same time in order for my desktop screen not to be cloned?

 

I've personally never used a VGA splitter.

I've always had enough extra ports or different port types, even on a single card with 3 monitors

If I read this right, then you can use one vga and one HDMI. No need for the splitter. You have two ports to use.

 

I only have one VGA port and one HDMI, hopefully splitters will do, spoke to a friend he said splitters should do, but if i want better quality i should get the HDMI cable, so yeah i'll see how it goes when the splitters arrive

 

Splitters are only useful for cloning displays.

You'll need to utilize two different ports if you want to extend your desktop across multiple monitors.

Based on what you've said, you should be fine with one VGA cable and one HDMI cable.

 

Are you listening to what anyone is saying? You don't need the splitter. Just use your VGA and HDMI, that's all you need.
