UNP looks like a buy now to me. What price did you pick it up at? Looks like they under-performed their estimates on this last quarterly. Off the top of my head I think it was released yesterday? Could explain the dip but I would hold on and even buy a few more if you can afford it. You shouldn't be taking more than a ~6% loss in it though if you've held on for too long you're playin it wrong (in my opinion).

I can't tell you much about EOG unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with it. Is it oil related?

I like INTC now because
1) It's a good company, stock essentially dropped because of lack of PC sales, not because of an issue at INTC
2) INTC will benefit off the expansion of the "Internet of Things" and datacenters (I like MLNX here too, speaking of datacenters and the future of that sector)
3) Declared quarterly dividends, should attract more investors to at least drive the stock up for a short-term trade. Dividends to me tell me that an (established) company is confident in their strength and has positive expectations
4) It's cheap. Buy up

INTC - i think lagging computer/processor sales are probably pretty bad for intel. maybe the ioc stuff will help out, but i'm not convinced (though you've obviously looked into it more than i have!)

UNP - ehhhh, not thrilled about it honestly. i paid around 105-110 iirc

Thanks but the cash isn't necessarily mine (all of it anyways). Grandma is pretty wealthy and let me manage her cash after freshmen year. We started at 300k. I don't leverage my (our?) portfolio because it's quite frankly too much money for me to invest without freaking out about messing up. It's all cash right now anyways

I've really wanted to get more into small investing pools. But I need to do more research on things, I have some stock in a small business and like only a couple thousand dollars in a large food chain.

 

Why so many people so hesitant to say exactly what they're in? There's like 3 of us here it's not going to endanger any of your trades

 

I am going to quote a post I made a bit ago on another thread that relates to this thread and is showing one of my investments. I will be reading this entire thread and quoting stuff you guys said with questions and comments to put in the next post I make. Keep in mind these are very short term investments for just SMALL amounts of money. This is that extra money to buy the new phone or grill, NOT to retire on.

Why not just post your YTD profit/loss or all time P/L instead of specific trades? Why are you using Fidelity with position sizes so small? and if you're going to be throwing your money into unidirectional bets on random small-caps why aren't you using options to atleast lower the $$$ you risk losing.

Hope the money youre using isnt important to you because i doubt youll keep it long

 

Because I'm a minor, I didn't want an individual account yet. I currently trade in a sub-portfolio of a family members account. The money being traded is my own via transfer but not legally under my name.

As for posting more info and portfolio YTD, I don't really feel comfortable sharing much more than a few select trades. Mostly because it's not my account.

 

It's a leveraged derivative of one of the most popular ETFs... why waste your money if you dont know what youre doing

but you're 16 you're learning its a good place to start but just know there's a lot to learn and that isnt the best avenue for revenue. As for recommending stocks and other things like that....I'd refrain from doing so until you understand what you're doing entirely

 

Honestly I think you guys are really overestimating the trading I do. I've done maybe 3-4 total trades at best and all have been relatively low amounts of my own money. I do not and never did plan on making a real source of income from these risky trades.

I agree they are risky and sometimes unidirectional but they certainly aren't random. There is still some substance to the choices I make, so don't discredit it as me just investing in random companies.

As for the stock recommendations, I never intended to actually convince somebody of a stock I think will be successful. Recommendations are just that, a recommendation. They are in no way a requirement and all should be taken with a grain of salt, especially from a 16 year old.

Just to repeat it again because nobody seems to understand:
The money I am investing at the moment is essentially a drawing book to me. Even if I overpay a bit for the drawing book, as long as it makes me a better artist via trial and error and learning by doing, so be it.

I do lots of virtual money trading as well to test out my unpolished trading skills.

 

PLUG closed up +3.02%. Believe my wizardry yet? Kidding. But in all seriousness, it's nice to see the market (Dow J) pick up +1.09% after a decent fall in the past week.

edit: Continue watching PLUG this week. I think tomorrow will be pretty stable with -.5% to +.5% change at best. I think it'll close the week around $2.50-2.55
