SVU Requirements

The fee has nothing to do with becoming a SVU. the fee is for the outgoing automated message/call and costs that Richard has to incur because of it.

Who would you expect to verify this process?

The reason SVU works the way it does now is because it is automated.

For all of you saying "we should be required to submit driver's lisences, SIN's ect" How In the world do you expect Matthew or Richard (realistically the only two people who would be trusted with your personal information) to verify every single person who wants to become a SVU?



Dun, I applaud what you are trying to do in this situation; I really do.

But when you have new members, who skip over reading the rules, who ignore stickies like this: http://www.sythe.org/sythe-org-supp...sythe-org-newcomer-introduction-tutorial.html And blindly trust people who have joined the site after them because they have a collection of pixels that amount to a fun rank that says "verified" without actually researching what it means, then they are going to get scammed.

We cant fix stupid.

The whole idea of SVU was to share the information with the victim of a scam, but it doesnt seem to work that way or have any effect (from what I see) so I think SVU should just be removed because it is misleading. Everyone who has it could have like a + 5$ Donation or something.

 

This is meant to be proactive, not reactive. People don't read, thats a fact. So instead of blaming it on them, why don't we try to do our best to prevent them from getting scammed regardless.

 

That's partially the argument I was making initially. And I'm leaning towards revamping it; however, if it gets scraped so be it. This is just trying to bring awareness as there are people in the market who will go first based solely on the reason that the other user is a SVU. Something needs to be done, whether it's getting rid of it, altering its requirements, etc.

The consensus is between renaming and removing it or making it a minirank.

If it were to be renamed, what would we call it? Dun suggested:

- Sythe Supported User
- Sythe Established User
- Sythe Documented User

But to be honest, the main problem we're running into here is that users are interpreting Verified User to literally mean someone who was manually verified. Whatever the new title should be, it should convey what was actually done by the SVU as accurately as it can.

It was suggested earlier in the thread that we use a third party to store sensitive information, which would mitigate the cost/risk of storing the data itself. I suggested "Sythe-Secured Identity" but other suggestions are obviously still on the table.

 

I agree on just removing the system all together. manually verifying the amount of people that already have SVU would take ages and I wouldn't trust anyone with my SIN, Drivers Liscene I wouldn't mind as much. As it is right now, it is useless and is just a tool for scammers.

 

The more I look at it, the more I tend to agree with simply removing it.

 

Personally I didn't read through comment I kinda support that I'm fairly new and a lot of newcomers(even some old members) think i'm so called trusted yet I joined less than a month ago...

With this being said I think you should verify by driver license or paypal/wu
Verified sounds like means confirmed who you are.

 

I think Sythe shouldn't verify IRL details, as pointed out, it creates a nuisance and security issue for them to store that info.

 

Can you just scrap the whole system please. As said above it adds "trust" to people that arent trustworthy at all. Its easy to pay $30 to get it and scam newcomers more than that as they think they are legit.

The system tricks many newcomers into thinking that the SVU tag is actually meaningful. Because it seems like a reasonable solution to actually verifying users would be too hard to implement logistically and for safety reasons (irl information), I think the best solution is to just remove it completely.

It's called building a reputation. And have you read what being verified actually entails? If I was to scam people would have my name, address and phone number...

I don't agree with the massive fee, but I do agree with raising the requirements.

Maybe... $50 donator required, $20 fee.
You need to get name, dob, phone number, address.
Then send in photo ID+bill/bank statement for verification.

I think that would be a lot more effective, and as you said SVU just = someone with $30 who wants to scam lol.

Here's an idea for your 3 level system:

Level 1 - Name, phone number
Level 2 - Name, phone number, DOB + Photo ID
Level 3 - Name, phone number, DOB + Photo ID, Proof of address.

I don't agree with having to make a verified paypal donation with your name on it to prove, as I personally don't have access to paypal, and is (quite honestly) stupid because anyone can buy a prepaid VCC and verify a paypal account in a fake name. Whereas (at least in the UK) a fake drivers license or photo ID with a bank statement/bill is harder to forge and is more conclusive way of obtaining name, d.o.b and address.
As these can however be forged, I'm sure there are sites where you can send an automated letter to an address and as the fee would be like $20 or so, it's within the budget to do it and just send a little letter to the address they've given with a code on it used to finish the verification of 'level 3'.

Only way to fake that would to have a drop address, and unless you're a landlord/balling social engineer, you probably don't.

TL;DR - Support.

 

I think scrapping it altogether. It's been made aware that storing and verifying this info would be a nuisance, so scrapping it is the best way to go.

 

I don't mind the whole SVU thing but I have one problem, I can't figure out how to achieve the SVU rank, if someone could show me I would appreciate that.

SVU I always thought was supposed to be so much more than it is in terms of trustworthiness. Really doesn't prove anything.

 

perhaps change the current svu tag to something different that sounds less trusted maybe just being a paypal verified user, then make a real SVU more towards your suggestion. being only a certain criteria of people that can use it and more information / a higher fee

 

Matthew didn't enjoy the likes of increasing the fees / information required. Hence a name change or just dumping it altogether.
