Modern day feminism

Does it still strive for the equality of women? The subject matter has become jaded with entitled demands from feminists themselves.

 

Really depends on the situation and who you ask.

 

I don't find there is much substance to modern feminism in counties like the US.

Most talking points have been debunked (Wage gap, oppression by patriarchy, rape culture).

The rest boils down to my feelings we're hurt, or things that don't apply only to women.

 

Get your shit straight. "Modern day feminism" encompasses so much. What about the women fighting for equality in the middle east right now? Does that fit into your category of "modern day", or are you going to group them with the tumblr fucktards?

If you're talking about the extremist movement, you should educate yourself on the terminology. "Third wave feminism" is what you're looking for. There are still some real feminists making some real headway for a real cause out there, in "modern day". Your current terminology makes no sense.

 

Let it be known that I am an advocate of equal rights for everyone.

It's the 21st century, women (particularly in 1st world countries) have the same rights as men. The rights feminists in 1st world countries claim they don't have are trivial and go both ways.

For example:

Body integrity - Abortion/Genital mutilation
Body objectification - Breasts/Ass = Muscles/Abs
Sexism in workplace - Goes both ways

Feminists are trying to reestablish traditional values for women, but will go against the grain if the situation is convenient.

For example:

Men hitting women (mainly for self defense)

Are all women who support this bullocks 3rd way feminists? This would mean the majority are 3rd way feminists.

I think, in 1st world countries, modern feminism is now to do with media and how women are portrayed rather than laws and rights and discrimination.

 

I used to consider myself a feminist based off the definition (belief in the political, social, and economic equality of women), but that often does not seem how it is not portrayed. Feminism has become this nitty-gritty word where negative connotations are often assumed if you use it. I would argue that many people are feminists, but do not stick to said label.

Feminism is definitely needed in countries throughout the world who are facing problems such as FGM, very blatant work place discrimination, and other pressing issues aka "developing countries." There are plenty of places where a husband can legally rape his wife, or where a women cannot leave her house without a son or a husband because there is "adultery."

As for advanced democracies, there may still be hurdles per-say, but I now find many SJWs are looking for just about anything to attack. I definitely believe in equality and I believe in - the literal - feminism, but the current movement seems as it's looking for problems. When you've reached a point in society where "man spreading" has become a big feminist issue, there's a problem.
