    Exercise tips

Here's my exercise situation, just looking for advice.

I've recently moved to a new city and haven't yet found a place to play squash; in college, I played every day for 60-90 minutes and got a very good workout in as a result. Since moving, I've been going to my complex's (admittedly very nice) gym, where I've been doing mostly indoor cycling to retain the leg strength and endurance necessary for squash. It also has the added benefit of keeping my heart rate up for a solid 40 minutes every time I go with minimal recovery time needed (I've been going 5-7 times a week). Overall, I'm fairly happy with my workouts but thought I'd solicit tips/advice from you all; not sure what sort of information you'd need, but if there's anything, feel free to ask. I was thinking of adding in some ab workouts since I used to do a lot of them when I trained as a tennis player in high school... plus having abs is always nice I guess.

Also, I managed to mildly strain an achilles about two months ago, so I've been trying not to put undue weight on my legs (i.e., no heavy lifting). In addition, I had wrist surgery a few years ago so lifting heavy things is doubly not an option. So bear those in mind.

And, of course, once I find a place to play squash regularly, this will all probably change. Depending on how busy I am, I might only be able to play a few times a week, so I'd need a complementary exercise regimen for the other days.

Hope you don't mind but I feel the need to ask these questions to better help me in helping you.

What exactly is your goal (to look good, to be better at squash etc)?

What exactly was the wrist surgery for if you can remember?

mostly to stay fit (i'm in good shape now but am in tremendous shape when playing squash regularly). once i figure out the squash situation, i think that'll transition to "staying fit while improving at squash". also not getting hurt would be nice :p

synovitis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synovitis). essentially they removed a bunch of liquid and inflamed tissue from around my dominant wrist. it is always slightly stiff and gives a dull ache in the cold and dry months

If you're just looking to stay in shape I recommend basketball as a replacement if that's an option.

Often times there is a community league you can join.

Volleyball is very fun. Play two v two and you'll stay in shape.

The only thing I can think of is alternative sports in the meantime.

both are relatively high impact on the legs, and volleyball in particular is high impact on hands. not sure how that's the best option (though tennis players generally do well with volleyball).

in any case, i should have a squash club lined up shortly
