fake name on paypal

recently someone sent me a payment with obvious fake name.


My immediate reaction was concern for chargeback.

when negotiating trade he made it very clear he could only pay PP and not 07gp( I guess because no gold seller would sell to him because he couldn't provide ID for the preposterous name linked to his paypal account)

so do gold sellers not sell to people with fake names on their paypal? why?

 

generally large goldsellers aren't going to take paypal from total randoms, and they sometimes ask for a good bit of personal info when doing so (ID, etc.). i don't think the fake name is a surefire way to signal "this guy's gonna chargeback," but it definitely doesn't help.

 

That is why I don't take paypal I feel like this will happen to me and it raises a massive red flag. Gold sellers rarely accept paypal from what I have seen unless it is a known buyer who buys often from them.

 

Not true. Businesses will accept Paypal from 95% of people for a reasonable (<$100) amount. To the OP, your instinct is correct. If it's a personal (not business Paypal) with a fake name, I wouldn't advise you to trust it. They're not even willing to trust you with their name.

With a fake name, it's likely the paypal account will become limited. From there they won't be able to do much without providing real ID. Just curious what was the fake name and how ridiculous was it?

 

You should use PA if you dont feel safe accepting paypal payments.

 

If it's a different name it might not be there Paypal. That's why Gold Sellers ask for ID when they do orders.
