Uber investing in self driving cars in 2020

do you think the majority would ever opt for a taxi service that's fully autonomous?

I think it could be incredibly economical and eco-friendly as well as reducing clutter on the roads. Not to mention countless lives being saved by reducing car accidents substantially

OT: I couldn't care less because Uber has officially been banned in Broward county (where I currently reside) and will be moving out July 31st here

 

I'd rather drive myself or get a bike, i feel more safe that way

 

I'd love to see lanes for only self driving cars. It'd be safer, more fuel efficient, more relaxing for long journeys, etc. I'm glad to see people are continuing to invest in the technology and seeing good results.

As far as Uber goes, that's not shocking. Being one of the first taxi-services to jump on it could be quite profitable.

 

Hypersensitive sensors would make the car rides slower I imagine. If it's optional (should be) at the passengers discretion, then it's a good move. I don't think it would significantly boost or encourage more people to use ubers to warrant buying out the automated cars.

That's awesome, sadly in Mexico people are afraid of only hearing "private company"... A lot of people is against Uber because it's a private company and argue that the taxi drivers are losing their jobs, etc.

 

Not a huge fan of annoying Uber drivers.... So HELL YES!

 

The number of bad taxi drivers I've experienced outweighs the good ones. Just yesterday the driver was constantly honking at other cars, talking about how they're wrong, then proceeds to shortchange me and say "it's because of the traffic" as he bumps me with his arm like we're best pals. I don't mind paying more if necessary if that means getting rid of scumbags like him. You might even end up paying less.

 

That sounds crazy, never personally had a bad experience with a taxi driver but can understand where the guy above me is coming from.

 

But I mean if this becomes a thing a lot of people are going to lose jobs. Big part of police work is speeding tickets etc. delivery people can lose their jobs as well as taxi drivers. car sales will go down

 

Don't see it happening by 2020 tbh.

 

Uber in Canada is huge right now, a huge diplomatic fight happening due to the insurance issues but it's literally half the price to get somewhere

In all seriousness, there will eventually be a time similar to the industrial revolution and it will be the technological revolution. Everyone will just learn to programme and automate and other jobs will be redundant and done by robots.

 

or the opposite. programming is deemed too dangerous for the average man and is outlawed. We'll have to transfer copies of programming tutorials among one other via hidden sd cards

 

There will be a power struggle between legitimate programming and automation and hacking. That would be interesting to watch. When our whole worlds are taken hostage by hackers
