That's one of the craziest things I've read in quite some time, and illustrates perfectly how you have no clue about what human rights are.

You don't have a right to other people's things just because you need it to survive, whether it is water, food, healthcare, etc. To say water is not a human right does not mean the same thing as people do not have the right to collect water.

In response to Finally07, this about sums it up. I think you're the one who doesn't understand what human rights are. They're ubiquitous birthrights that are inherently given to humans. There is no one going around to people drinking bottled water, smacking the water out of their hand, and yelling "YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO WATER!" Saying water is a human right means that a man voluntarily living in a desert with no water should be able to say "I was born with the right to water, bring me water wherever I am". No, it doesn't work that way. He can go collect water, no one is stopping him unless there's a water mafia.

The concept of universal human rights was only really conceived after World War 2. You shouldn't base your definition of human rights off of a 200 year old document - our understanding of what they are has significantly increased since then.

    I wonder why.

I don't understand this argument you keep making. If rights are denied, voluntarily or not, they don't suddenly cease to be rights.

Either way, water has already been recognized as a human right by the UN and all of its member states.

When I made my comment about water being a human right I didn't mean everyone should be doled out free water, but rather that water is a natural resource and people shouldn't be penalized for collecting it by natural means (condensation, rain water Ect). Lots of states have outlawed collection of rain water and thats fucking ridiculous. Nestle is at the forefront of this ridiculous movement. They can collect water by any means, filter it and charge obscene rates for it but we can't save rainwater?! Yeah fuck that, nobody owns the rain.

Said man does have a right to water. Saying that he doesn't because he can't claim it, makes me believe that, in addition to not understanding the concept of human rights, you don't even seem to understand what a right is.

I would have to say Nestle or Horlicks or one of those companies that makes powdered drinks.
This is because in Africa they used to give away these for free/low price for babies to drink. After the mothers breast had dried up they would no longer give them up for free forcing the parents to buy the drink for quite alot of money (compared to their average income).

You're crazy. You have to be. Water is very much a human's fundamental right.

Fundamental rights: "to which a person is inherently entitled simply because she or he is a human being," and which are "inherent in all human beings" regardless of their nation, location, language, religion, ethnic origin or any other status.

It's not about "survival of the fittest", it's about every human having the inherent right to life. And it doesn't make sense saying that humans don't have the right to live. Humans NEED water to live. Our body is 90% water.

The United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights has said, "The human right to water entitles everyone to sufficient, safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water for personal and domestic uses."

On July 28/2010, the United Nations General Assembly declared water and sanitation as a human right.

One that comes to mind right away is Nestle for the whole taking water from California during their extreme drought

I would really like to better understand where you are coming from. So I have a few questions if you don't mind.

Is Nestle causing harm to the environment or any individuals by siphoning ground water?

When other companies purchase water from a public source are they paying for the water itself? Or is the cost a byproduct of maintaining the infrastructure required to obtain, filter, and deliver said water?

Since when does cost of production equate with value?

Do you believe Nestle has control over the price a retailer chooses to sell their product?

Did you know Nestle runs just 5 of the 108 bottled water plants in the state of California?

Most evil corporation? Can we even single out one? I'd say all corporations have their own demons hiding behind closed doors. They're always going to look out for their best interests as opposed to the common good.

The BBC has to be up there, and empire built on forcing people to pay for a service they may or may not use depending on whether or not the own a television.. Then, coverup insiders who commit appalling crimes.
