    The Official Name Change Poll

Hahaha, you can't be serious! Newcomers can hardly find vouches and correct email addresses. Do you honestly think they will know how to find a previous name? I highly doubt it.

Sythe.org is a confusing website, especially to a newcomer. If things become too overwhelming, you can expect new registrations to slow drastically.

Members already find it hard enough to not get scammed. Why would you want to add to the confusion and possibilities of being scammed?

Edit: I know you, bluesskittle, and others that have been here a while know all about sythe.org and how it operates. However, I want you to think about those newcomers. Think about joining sythe.org for first time, not knowing where anything is or how anything works. It is intimidating for some, and we'll all agree there is a learning curve here at sythe.org.

Sythe dosent make decisions based on what our stupidest members do and say; if this was the case chat logs would count as proof when reporting scammers.

Explain how letting users have name changes will be "overwhelming" for people who just joined the website and have no ideas what people's previous names were. Tons of other websites do this just fine.

    ?????
Please explain to me how this would "add to the confusion and possibilities of getting scammed"

    The Official Name Change Poll

I'll do my best to speak in layman's terms, as I want you to fully grasp the concept.

Every business wants mass appeal. Sythe is a business. Newcomers are the majority.

To stay in business sythe needs to appeal to its "customers", especially newcomers as they are the bulk of this site. Without the massive newcomer base, this site would be nothing.

There is a reason why news reports are dumbed down, and if you're smart you know why... they want to reach EVERYONE not just the 1% (like you and I)

The same concept works everywhere, including sythe.org

On this site, a name is reputation. People know who to trust and who not to trust based on feeback, word of mouth, etc.

For example, my friend was just scammed by "brownm&m" and told me to avoid him all cost. The friend didn't take proper screenies, so "brownm&m" doesn't get banned. He then changes his name to "pizzafoot". Unless I take to extra time to fully investigate "pizzafoot, I will have no idea that he was "brownm&m".

Yes, I should check everything before trading. However, I only know this because of my experience here at sythe. Expecting a newcomer to know every sythe.org practice is unrealistic. Yes, it could work, but at what cost? Is it worth it?

Other sites might change names with no consequence, but this is a trading website. Trust and reputation mean a lot more on Sythe.org than other forums.

Newcomers already find trading on sythe confusing. If you make it even harder for newcomers it is only logical to assume more scams take place. If you can simply avoid bad rep by changing your name, wouldn't you think scammers would take advantage of this?

Yes, you can have a "previously named" thread or whatever to find out who is who, but many newcomers can't even get OMM email addresses right... even when its like this: [email protected]

    The Official Name Change Poll

I do believe that with this proposed change comes a possible idea that name changes would only be allowed to certain usergroups, for example $200 donor + SVU + member for 2 years or more (arbitrary numbers I made up, but just to give you the idea of what I'm talking about).

That being said I do agree with most of your other points and I don't really see why COMPLETE name changes are necessary.
Bogdan123 --> bogdan? Sure, why not.
    Bogdan123 --> iloveminiranks? Unnecessary, imo.

    The Official Name Change Poll

    Thanks.

The same could be said that not allowing a service that other sites of the same kind do is unappealable. Although I understand where you are coming from with a lot of your points, its just not an opinion I agree with.

In that situation its a result of your friend failing to gather the correct screenies and your failure to check everything.

    We cant fix stupid.
We can put 30 stickys up that say "request a pm before trading" and people wont do it.

The question i'm looking at here is does the potential disadvantages of a higher probability of an uneducated person getting scammed outweigh the advantages of our dedicated sythe users being allowed to properly represent themselves.

People like Bogla, Binlednas and others who contribute alot more to this website through paying for advertising and donating than Richard would ever gain from a couple of random users.

The other sites I'm referencing include websites that deal in the same markets as we do; albiet sythe is significantly larger than these websites

    The Official Name Change Poll

I'm going to go ahead and address this in the SL and get a discussion going there.

Overall the majority vote is for allowing name changes, so from here we'll hash out the specifics then run them past Sythe for Approval/Disapproval. Keep an eye out for further information.
