Recently I have been hearing that staff is actively denying and attempting to remove grey usernames in a sole effort to free up the color for those people who have an ex-moderator rank. For several reasons, I really believe that white-grey should be synonymous with both usergroups and open for both those who formerly held a position on staff as well as those who have donated $200+ to the site.

1.) Ex-staff does not even have a usergroup color in the Usergroup Legend, and the color of a regular user is actually grey itself, not white.

2.) Reserving a COLOR for ex-staff (less than 50 users), which is a pretty close color match to the million+ regular users on this site seems a little excessive. It would seem to me that both the ability to have a UI after serving for staff, in addition to, and most importantly, having a rank that resembles such an accomplishment suffices to demonstrate their work for the community. The rank and UI priveleges, not the ambiguous usergroup color, really do serve enough purpose.

3.) Denial of grey really limits the creativity of UI's, which decreases encouragement of the biggest perk for all $200+ donors on the site.

    Thanks for reading!

tl;dr 50 ex-staff members shouldn't limit the main array of text color for UIs for donors by reserving the color grey

It's not hard to have two different colors if that's the issue.

I think if white is the main colour then it's pretty much okay.

Farcast's UI is a perfect example here -

You can tell the actual word is white, but it has a flash of blue on it. I think so long as the main colour of the username is white, then you are allowed a slight "dash" of another colour.

As for grey... well that's really meant for ex-staff only. If normal users can have grey too, things will start getting confusing.

While you make a good point, I don't think this is what OP meant.

Ex-staff members really shouldn't hold a colour that's so widely used when there could be other ways of recognizing one (already one existing, ie; the "ex-staff" rank, isn't this enough? I'm also pretty sure some staff members gets to keep some powers as well) without this colour. Why restrict something that is so basic?

    I support.

For the amount of ex-staff members, I think it should be left un-restricted.

Supporting this, we pay $200 to have a slight color change. It's only fair in our opinion.

None of these are acceptable. We're working with the admins currently to fix the entire system. It's not a "main colour" issue. You get white. That's your usegroup. Ex-mods have grey. That may be changed due to the similarity, but we're already aware of that.

Are you silly? Mine is white.
Go to the direct link of my UI ( http://sythe.org/usercenter/dynimages/u446142-5.png ) and tell me if you see any writing.

Mine is acceptable, the others maybe not, but mine is white, not grey.

I personally think "locking" colors for specific users besides staff is stupid regardless.

If I want a pink name, I should be able to have a pink name.

I mean really, We donate $300-$500-$1000-$2500 and cant have a pink or blue or purple name?

I personally support this & much further change.

Colours are allocated to certain user groups so users are able to distinctly differentiate between staff and other user base. Donating isn't a privilege, it's a choice and as such you stay within the same user base.

Bus, I have no clue what you're actually trying to argue here? The OP was about the gray usergroup allocated for ex staff?

I believe that the usergroups should stay as is but maybe revert back to old tendencies whereas admin were more lenient on the colour i.e. white-low level gray. I know it holds no bearing, but some admins have larger UI's than regular members and as such hosts a double standard.

I'm in the same boat. Colors for mods is an obvious thing since it shows who they are but there's really no reason to be harsh with white/grey UIs for users/ex-mods. They have the ex-mod rank anyways to show their status.

I'm unsure what the discussion is here? I think it would cause issues if users were able to identify their names with any colour at their choosing. What would happen to the online user list at the bottom of the home page? this would cause mass confusion for newer users who may be searching for the help of a moderator.

The idea of gray/white usergroups could be altered but everything else should stay as is. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
