I always check any bill $10 or larger, bank tellers get a kick out of it but I wouldn't put it pass anyone to pass on a fake bill so they don't have to take the loss.

 

At Futureshop they will try to sell little old ladies expensive shitty laptops that will be obsolete within a year's time. They usually end up paying $2000+ for a laptop plus a package with a garbage AntiVirus. Pretty sad tbh.

 

I've worked for two restaurants, and I've heard horror stories from others. I've ran a Wendy's when I was younger... tons of work for shit pay... anyway, your employees aren't going tell you everything that they've done wrong. They will do their best to conceal the awful truth. As soon as you pressure them about food costs, chances of using waste foods are higher... tell me I'm wrong.

I work at a small "movie house" type of theatre and even we throw it out at the end of every night. That's disgusting.

As for a secret, I do a lot of management work for the theatre so I know exactly how much profit comes in from tickets and how much from snacks. Money from tickets goes almost entirely to distributors, and the reason why 3D movies are more expensive isn't really because of the glasses but because distributors charge us more to show a 3D film than a regular one. Snacks are also so expensive because that is literally the primary revenue stream of a theatre. It's basically a glorified snack-based restaurant.

 

I don't know about when you worked for restaurants. But all of the new quick service restaurants nowadays run on an "open concept" layout. Meaning the customer can see literally everything that's not the managers office or stock areas.


Don't worry I know what your talking about with crew people hiding their mistakes. But i can say comfortably even the worst employee in my restaurant would have no question in their mind to throw out food that has touched the floor. Burger King already has a bad enough reputation with that retarded incident in the states, I won't let our store become a bad example.


One of the things that very common among quick service restaurants is the fact when food in the heater expires often our crew people will reset the timer and wait until the food is visibly not good to throw it away. That I can say about crew trying to skimp on food cost. So when chicken is only good for 30 minutes in the phu sometimes it'll be in there for like 45 minutes at a time.

Not really a secret, I don't think. Profits from movie tickets are divided in like 6 or 8 different ways and the only way Movie theatres make profit is from overcharging for watery soda, overcharging for stale popcorn, and upselling coconut oil as "butter".

I don't know what shit theatres you've been going to but soda syrup to water ratio is generally fairly high. The boxes cost anywhere from 70-90 each and are used up in 5 or so days where I work, so profits are still high without diluting. We also keep the popcorn fresh as I mentioned, considering an entire batch (4 or so large popcorns) costs us around $5 to make. Butter is also cheaper than coconut oil. Chain theatres here have started charging for it oddly enough, despite the fact that that likely reduces profits via declined interest (50c for butter? Yeah right).
