Suggestion on name changes!

It's always been a case of either resembling their current name or choosing a new one.

 

I agree with some of the things Hamouze said.
Take a look at my name bogdan123 i made it 5 years ago when i was young.

I would like my name to be Bogdan it looks way more professional and is my irl name.

I still say if you want a name change you need to be $300+ donor and other factors, better yet I wanna see it be available to $500+ donors.

 

I'm not arguing against making names more professional for staff but Unbanned just chose a stupid fucking name.

Also I always prefered having names changed to things that were shorter versions of their current name so you knew who the fuck they were. See Finn, Moh, Karl, Jimmy, superman, etc.

I appreciate that you agree with me, but let's be honest you only want it as a $500+ donor perk because you are one of the handful who have donated that much. You gotta think of the bigger picture.

 

Personally think name changes should be a $500+ perk, with said user also having 2FA and having no previous ban offences related to scams/black hat etc.
Should also only be allowed once at the $500 stage, and then every $200 donated since could generate a new allowance.

 

I think more lax requirements should trump few hard req's.

For example, to meet the requirements for your one and only name change, you need to have met the following conditions:

1) You have been a member of Sythe for at least 5 years.

2) You are a donor of at least $200 (or $300)

3) You have a PPD count of at least .5

4) You have not received an infraction for at least 12 months

I think this way it rewards users who have been loyal (5+ years) to Sythe, as well as rewarding their activity (PPD) on the site and good behaviour (no infractions within 12 months).

 

I think 1 name change per account should be available. This can be a major one. In my opinion it should be a 300-500$ perk and be accepted by a moderator tho.

 

I am thinking of the bigger picture, why not make it a $500+ donor perk? Name changes shouldn't just be given out to anyone, there should be strict requirements.

A $500+ donor rank requirement is ridiculous. It's easy to say it should be $500+ because you already have that rank. That's 50+ hours for someone working at minimum wage. What about someone who has only donated $50 but has been a longstanding, active member on Sythe? They have to pay $450 just to change their name? That's why what I suggested above works way better than what you're suggesting.

 

If it had a $500+ donor rank requirement only about 20-25 members out of the 400,000 + registered Sythe users would currently have the requirements to change their name. That is quite a big gap, and outrageous to say the least. The maximum amount asked for something as simple as changing your name ONE time should be $200-$300 as not everyone is as financially fortunate as you Bogdan and can afford to pay $500 for a rank. On top of that most forums offer name changing services for as cheap as $5 or even free so asking 100x that change your name seems a tad bit over priced to me. Just my two cents.

 

Yes, please single me out and ignore every other user that's had what you would consider an "acceptable" name change.

Back in 2006 I created the name "Shinuri" as "Shin" was never available. When I joined Sythe I wanted to create something unique, so I created the name Unb4nn3d. When offered the opportunity to change my name, I had been using "Shinuri" or "Shin" on many other games for a long time. Hence, I decided to use the shortened version and change to Shin (as the name "Alex" has always been unavailable).

 

Those were some examples of recent changes. I understand that many staff members had significantly different name changes, but I was under the impression that name changes were done to make your username more professional, while still keeping your previous username somewhat relevant in that change.

Another problem I have is, if this were to get approved, what about those who started over completely because we were under the impression that name changes were never going to be possible for members who aren't on the staff team? Does our post count and accolades associated with that account get transferred or what? I'm speaking hypothetically of course.

Didn't see that Richard suggested you post this thread. Anyways, I think that:

1.) Allowing name changes is complicating from a community aspect.

2.) In my eyes, the only reasons someone would want a username change is really for vanity or to change their reputation. The former is unnecessary and the latter is dangerous.

Not an ideal update to me for those reasons.

 

Miniranks mean nothing.
They are made to be absolutely useless, they are absolutely useless.

 

The thing I love most about this thread is people making suggestions so that they perfectly fit them.

$500 donor - "Must be a $500+ donor perk"
$300 donor - "Must be a $300+ donor perk"
.5 posts per day user - "Must have at least .5 ppd"
$500 donor with 30+ miniranks - "Must have at least 30 miniranks and $500 donated"

And more... come on people. This isn't being created specifically for you. Its like if I request "Must have joined sythe before October 2008."

In seriousness though, I think a combination of everything that's been stated would be good. Although I am biased as an older member, I do think there should be an account age requirement in addition to donations/posts/reputation and the like. There are a ton of new users lately who donated $200 bucks simply to have a good looking profile in order to scam quit. While someone from X years ago can certainly scam quit as well, it is much more likely for a brand new account.

My requirements:
- 1 Name Change per Account
- 3 + years on Sythe
- $300+ Donor
- 1000+ Posts
- SVU and 2FA (not sure on this one)

Active in community (approved by staff)

As long as the user is SVU and 2FA, as long as been here for atleast one year I am in full support of this change once in the life of an account. Also "previously known as" should be displayed in their member profile for 2+ months for clarity.

We really lag behind other forums in little things like this. I understand why we don't allow name changes, but I think if we take safety precautions I know it would be able to work out well.

Anyways onto my highly valued opinion I guess.

I see no issue with allowing name changes where previously known as is put into the profile/UT for an extended period of time.

I think the requirements should be strict for a complete name change, but if somebody would like to touch up their name by removing numbers/capitalization it should be Accepted on a case to case basis.

One of the things were missing out on here is the fact that administration (probably only matthew/Richard) can change names. I'm not sure if roary and others can. So this will be a large workload on a small amount of people who's time is already limited.

Aswell as the moderators extra work when dealing with scam reports that could potentially arise in the future. ( not saying this is a lot of work. But any extra work is extra work)


Don't get me wrong I'd love to have my name changed to Tyler, but is this a really fesiable thing for this sites future?
