Cigarette?

I had a bad craving for a cig today. I'm in the process of quitting so instead of caving to my impulse I channeled that energy into creating and... well... this happened. It's not really supposed to be anything, just a piece. CC is appreciated.

 

To CNC, I need to know what you did in this is the original pic like that, etc.

 

You want me to explain the whole thing...? It was a simple stock of photo of two people smoking in color. From there I just kind of ran with it, switched it to grayscale, added some overlays and textures, did some brushwork, did up a little text, etc.

 

Very nice, did you play around with any other colors? Cancer in a bright red would pop out of the pic then maybe a little transparency on cancer so you can see the kids but still have cancer popping. Either or both might be cool to try out. I really like the black and white though. Very cool bro, keep it up.

I do like the texture you used over the picture. But like Thersgod it'd be nice to know some of your steps

I smoke cigs on occasion but definitely not like most people I know that smoke going through like half a pack on a slow day. I'm more of a couple per month type a guy, unless I decide to mix a little with weed. Good luck bro

So with the texture did you just overlay another textured picture with transparency over the photo?

 

No, the mood I was in basically lead me right to a B&W theme, I didn't even think about adding contrast like that. Very cool idea, thank you.

I picked up smoking a long time ago because I was surrounded by it. Now I'm starting to see the effects first-hand so I quit. I'm like you, though, I never really went overboard with it -- more of a ganja guy anyway.

Sort of. I took a texture pattern that was fitting, made it the foremost layer, changed the mode to overlay, adjusted the transparency and then adjusted the lightness/saturation a bit before placing it. The final effect you see is a composite of multiple texture/pattern overlays done this way.
