Opinions on buying ely

I have enough money for an ely but idk if i should buy it. have some concern the price has gotten really high and idk if it will drop or what. can someone give me an opinion and let me know if it is a smart buy. an ely was always the goal in osrs so i really want it but idk if it will crash or something....

The price of elysians is artificially inflated right now as the majority of them are held by stakers and being used as currency. I think that there may be plans to introduce a different form of stable currency that can be used by people with over max cash like spirit shards in RS3. If this happens the price of elysians will drop significantly as there won't be any reason to use them over a different item that won't fluctuate in price.

 

It's unlikely to drop 200m in a night.

 

Actually, I'd have to agree with Meteor on this one. If you look on osbuddy it shows that the buy price is inactive and the sell price is 824m, meaning that not many are buying it and it may be bought out by stakers to use. The price pre-ge was around 500m. It may not drop to there, but it may drop if either a. a few people decide to dump them or b. a new way to store cash is introduced. I wouldn't buy unless you are only keeping it for a short time or you plan on never selling it and don't care about price

 

Its no different then when 3a items were being used as currency by stakers. When some get cleaned theyl start dumping them and the price will crash. It will continue to fluctuate until it hits a realistic price probably around 500m. I merched for years but left before they brought the g.e back. Not sure how its effecting the market. Im sure its destroyed the majority of individual merchers.

 

I'm not quite sure how great it is investment-wise, but spending 800m or whatever on a shield for pvm doesn't seem very reasonable even if you can afford it.

 

It actually has a very significant impact on bossing in 07. It's not like you're throwing away 800M either. You can always sell it back.

OT: If you've got nothing better to spend the cash on why not? There's no planned future updates that devalue the shield ATM so any price fluctuations would be from the supply and demand variation each day. Also keep in mind as people kill Corporeal Beast more and more will come into the game so over time it will slowly lose a bit of value.

 

Pretty much what meteor said - the price is inflated atm. However, if you don't have anywhere else to sink the money, and plan on doing some PvM, I don't see why not.
