Ex-Staff 2FA Requirement

Does anyone have anymore input to give on this? Think there's been a reasonable amount of discussion on it already.

 

It isn't forcing ex-staff to use 2FA. It's requiring 2FA in return for the privilege of displaying a rank which shows both trust and tenure as a respectable member - making new users, or users who maybe aren't as savvy at monitoring people's habits or trading history in particular, vulnerable to being scammed.

 

Govind is all for it but he can't just do it. Gotta get Richard or Matt (I'm assuming) to do it.

 

Well, yeah, it is. You're basically just arm-twisting. "Enable this, if you don't, you lose the rank you earned." Why are certain ranks suddenly becoming conditional?

If this goes through it becomes a slippery slope. Donors have a rank that makes them appear more trustworthy than the average user. Does a fun rank make some users look at someone differently too? Probably. Better have checks for those ranks as well, right?

 

Staff members are notably more trustworthy than donors..

 

Are you sure? Subjective and user-dependent, really. We're dealing with how a rank is interpreted by a stupid member. Who knows.

 

Donor rank - you have a paypal with money in it
Staff - you were trusted as an official staff member

Newcomers are going to trust a staff member more so than a donor

 

My point is that they're likely both going to be trusted more than the average user. Where is the line drawn? Rules shouldn't be added to keep ranks that have been earned, they should never be conditional.

Just let people use their own discretion on enabling security measures on their accounts.

 

A little off topic, but if 2fa isn't a requirement for SVU, it should probably be made a requirement for SVU

Bumping this because Ryan (Ex-Admin and Highly Trusted) was recently banned for scamming Ikov GP? Why the fuck hasn't anything been done about this? The person that was scammed was PM'd over Sythe and was still scammed because there are people that are obviously being hacked somehow. Something needs to be done about this.

Scottay's account was seemingly recently hacked and used to scam with also. Both ex-staff.

 

It's pretty apparent that many people here refuse to use sound reasoning to make easy decisions. As long as they have this mindset, nothing will change.

 

I agree, some seem to be vehemently against this idea yet I still fail to see a good reason raised by them.

 

Well I just dropped a PM to Govind (seeing as he and the other tech admins are the only ones that can actually do anything about this suggestion).

3 (?) were hacked this week alone. im in favor of it. all staff, and honestly everyone else, should 2fa up

 

I support this suggestion as well. I also believe everyone should be 2FA

 

2FA for everyone would never happen. Why would additional, unnecessary obstacles to joining be placed on new members?

 

What I meant is not -> everyone should be forced to have 2FA. I just think people should have 2FA if they want to be more secured ^_^ I strongly recommend it.
If it was forced, than I agree with you. It would just be an obstacle for new members. Members should have the right to choose if they want this obstacle or not



Now.. Concerning the ex-staffs:

There is a bunch of inactive ex-staff accounts that are just waiting to be hacked.. so it would be better if they would have 2FA or be SRB. When they would come back in the community, they could remove it and choose to have 2FA or not.
