    Range tank

    Hey,

I'm interested in making a range tank. What makes them so good? And what levels should I be aiming for?

If you could link me a guide or anything that'd be great. Cheers!

definitely would get 42 melees for void like Vplus said. But it ultimately depends on how you want to set up your account.

You can get void stats, and then 90 range and you'll end up with ~74 combat level with ~78 hp.

Or stay at 1 attack/strength, 50 defence, 70 range and then cannon your range to 85, will put you at about 60 hp, but you'll be at 68 combat. Or cannon from 55-85 range and you'll be at ~48 hp and 65 combat. 50 hp is a pretty safe level to be at as a mid-level range tank.

If you're a combat level cruncher, definitely do option two. Combat crunching is a HUGE advantage when Pking, as I pointed above, with a little work and money put in, you can save 10 combat levels with a 5 range level difference. Crazy advantage for sure.

If you don't care about advantages definitely do option 1. It's not like it won't be "as bad" because not many people combat crunch so you're basically at a fair playing field, so it's a safe option.

Thanks for your reply pure plox,

The account that i'm currently leveling is 72/64/72. So I guess I would be aiming for a goal of 99 range 99 defence (undecided on the pray level). But isn't there a rule where my attack and strength levels have to add up to 149 or 147? I've never made a tank before and will mainly be using it for bossing and some deep wild pking

Yup when you max out you can't go over 75 attack and 74 strength - assuming you are 52 prayer, 99 defence and 99 range.
It's a must that you choose 75 attack over 75 strength, being able to use SotD is a big plus. Levelling both to 75 would give you an extra combat level.

Would recommend using this to experiment with what combat level you'll end up with: http://www.tip.it/runescape/pages/view/combat_calc.htm

One thing to note when pking as a range tank is the right gear loadout. Torag's helm is better than any range helmet, rune kite/dragon square/DFS is better than an unholy book, etc. Range accuracy bonus isn't as important as you might think.

I would suggest range voider with veng, they are most fun to pk with i think also if you do range tank 70-75 def dfs for tank reasons archer/ torags helm for tank bonus so they barley hit that's point of a tank Veng with tank for sure i would not pk without veng its really what makes the rangers who get def

Do you think a void ranger would beat a tank in a 1v1 fight? A void ranger would have significantly less defence which would mean they're sort of in two different classes of fights.. but still, do you think its worth getting 75+ def or staying 42 for void?
