How to make something transparent?

I'm shit at anything to do with graphics, even beginner stuff.

I want to make either of these two photos transparent, as in only have the guy, no background, and make the background transparent. I basically want the guy to be like my current avatar. Any help?

Its not perfect but not bad either. Dont have much time to make it perfect I resized it + made it transparent so u can request it as an ava without doing anything


Maybe someone have more time and can do it perfectly but at least u have what u want

If you're asking this as question, then using the Pen Tool to crop them out would be the best option.

Edit: Swaze, I tried to resize the first pic to 150x150 but it seems a bit stretched. What's the problem exactly? This is how it looks:

You have to watch the % when resizing ( it has to be the same % in Y and X)

 

What does that mean? I just use picresize.com and resize it to 150 pixels by 150 pixels.

 

The dimensions of the image doesn't fit the 150x150 ratio evenly, so stretching will happen if you resize it to 150x150 without adding extra space.

Since the width and height of the original image is not equal, changing each one to 150 distorts it.

Here is the second pic with only the width changed to 150 px. (picresize will automatically change the other option if left blank.)
