Olive R Twists Home Page Design

This home page was designed for my final web design project. I had to interview the owner of a store, in this case I chose a restaurant. I got the jist of what his business was about, what I got from it was a classy bar/grill that a lot of people come to eat and have a drink so I tried to incorporate this in my design with the patterns and colour choices. All of the photos and graphics were made by me. I also had to do all of the HTML and CSS for this home page. Ended up getting an 82 on this page which I'm happy with. I'm still learning web design so if you have any CnC that'd be great I fixed all the spelling mistakes before I handed it in, and also cropped the header picture because it's hanging off on the right.

I'd prefer the restraint name to be a bit more noticeable. But that's just probably personal preference. It looks good

 

IMO you could re-do the navigation bar because it seems very plain just having the red/maroon color. Even adding a small noise to it would give it texture and not look so plain. Not a fan of the text overall as well. Not bad though and as long you are happy with it then that's all that matters.

 

Looks very plain overall. Just really quick CnC, either make the navigation bar at the top full width or make the footer same length as the navigation is now. Looks awkward the way it is now.

 

Looks good imo Perhaps just a little something to the headers like a thick small drop shadow or underline but overall I like it.

As for the body, the 2 pics and the Welcome and The Market text, I feel it would have been so much better if a grid was made and they were aligned so they all fit within this 2x2 grid. At the moment it looks disconnected and hap-hazard. The pics placement isn't the best either, from a glance it looks like the front on picture relates to the welcome and the picture inside the restaurant relates to the market due to the nature of reading left to right. Small pet peeve with the front on picture of the market, a perfect front on picture would have looked just that much better I reckon. Lastly, the green text is a nice touch but I don't feel it's used consistently enough.

 

I'm not a big fan of the colours to be honest.
Overall good work.

 

This and Moonglares, I don't understand how all the comments are people saying " wow so perfect, looks so good ". I thought the reasons of posting your work is to get critisized and get feedback.
But guess what, ZippyGFX only decides to reply to the people cheering him on.
If you are looking for people to tell you how good your stuff is, you're not going to improve at all that's what I'm going to say. He didn't even bother replying to my feedback on his other design.

Tl;dr : This is very basic, could be a lot better.

I posted this to get criticism and a lot of people here are helping me out, what are you on about? I read all the CnC and it helps me with future designs. Just because I didn't reply doesn't mean I'm not taking your criticism, I appreciate people posting stuff to help me get better.

 

Read the first sentence of my feedback on ur cow website, I asked you if you had a moodboard, basicly you didn't answer meaning you ignored what I posted even though I take my time to give people feedback.
But it's allright man, gl with ur designs!

 

I read it through before and took into consideration your suggestions, thanks. Also to answer your question yes I start off by creating a wireframe, then a moodboard and then finally I start the final. I don't want to stop you from giving CnC from this misunderstanding, so please keep posting

 

This is awesome for a first site man. Couple things I might suggest:

Personally I don't like bulky headers. Move your social media links into the footer. Move the hours to the footer under About Us. Also you could make their logo/name one line instead of three and that'd make it not so tall.

See how you made the bottom images interesting by making them into circles and giving them a border? Try doing something to make the images in the main body more interesting, it's not so pleasing to the eye to see images so contrasted against a background like that.

Make the cover photo taller. People love visuals and bright colors. The maroon of the page is overbearing, making the cover photo larger will help with that a little.

Make your footer a bit smaller. The more useless empty space on a page the more cluttered it actually feels. Like things are floating randomly without a purpose when in reality there's just a bit more space than there needs to be.


General things:

Someone mentioned it, the font is too sharp for my taste

Like I mentioned before about the color. It's really great to create a colored theme and match all the way through like you did. However I think it's 70% of users don't like dark colored websites. So a maroon is a immediate turnoff.
