Rule Suggestion

It's 5AM and I haven't slept yet, so I will keep this short and to the point:

Re-add Backseat Modding rule.

Everyone posts on every thread telling people they posted in the wrong section / they can bump their thread once every 8 hours only / other posts irrelevant to the thread /, INSTEAD of using the fucking report a post button. It's extremely annoying, it's completely useless and generates a massive amount of useless posts in all forums. They simply post wrong section and don't even report the damn threads.

 

I support this. I do this from time to time for certain situation but some people are constantly refreshing the new posts and pounce on the juicy thread that requires a mods action.

 

What would be clarified under this rule? Almost every rs account sale thread I come across does not have the correct information in it, so what I'll usually post is something like

Some would classify this as "backseat modding" but like 90% percent of the time the users just goes "sorry added thanks" is it really worth the moderators time to have to deal with something like this when a member of the community can help them out?

 

The line is too thin to draw a clear conclusion of what is considered "backseat modding". We shouldn't infract users for helping others out. That's not how you build a community. I believe there are instances where the rule is somewhat enforced on posts that evidently imply, or purposely show signs of what you explain, but I'd assume it happens rarely.

 

I'd honestly prefer it if normal users told people about the 8 hour bump rule and then reported posts if they continued to break it than me having to do it every time. If people are overzealously backseat modding, you can always report the posts!

 

It's actually helpful for us. All that would happen is the user wouldn't post, and one of us would either have to post or PM them with a warning.

I'm not a fan of going too total-Nazi on people's posts. We want to strengthen the community, not penalize people for acting as one.

It just hurts people who are trying to help.

 

When someone posts mentioning the rules, it normally tells other users going to that thread about that particular rule. I don't know for sure, but it probably helps in the long run when more and more new/unfamiliar users stumble upon one of those posts.

Fastest way he got a response and he fixed it. One less thing for mods to handle.

 

No support. Telling someone that its the wrong section, or they need to include pictures, or to keep from bumping every 8 hours can be helpful.

"I find it annoying" isn't a compelling enough reason to ban people from posting in a certain way.

 

No support, it really isn't that big of a deal.

 

Several staff members, including me, are not a fan, because it actually helps in most, if not all, cases.
