Finance Related Section

Not sure about people's thoughts on this but I remember there used to be a section for discussion about assets and investments, I can't remember the actual name but it was replaced by crypto currencies, it seems like there's a lot of people who are interested in finance on this forum and there is no section for finance related topics.

A section for finance related discussion could be a great place to educate users. A sections which allows topics such as credit cards, loans, interest rates, budgeting, currencies, assets, education, certifications, careers, and just general questions people may have before committing money to something could become a pretty interesting section and a great tool for education. The crypto currency forum looks pretty dead in my opinion and is too narrow in scope to thrive especially with the lack of media on crypto currencies now.

 

This is an amazing idea punjabi. Totally agree, I'd love to see some posts on investments as I have a ton of money from my job but nothing to actually invest it in

 

That's cool, I know a lot of people have stable income but I would hope the section doesn't turn into people pitching penny stocks as the next million dollar idea and instead allow members to educate themselves and make their own informed decisions. I mean in your case it could be beneficial to learn about TFSAs, mutual funds, RRSPs, stocks, currencies, etc. and how your risk tolerance, disposable income, expected returns could affect your investment objectives. I know a lot of these services are available at retail banks but its always good to educate yourself before taking advice from people who profit off your investments. The quality of advice obviously depends on the intelligence of the people posting but in my opinion some of the people running businesses here are very educated in finance. There's a lot of people here who know how to save and spend money intelligently but there seems to be no where to discuss it.

 

There used to be this. It was closed due to inactivity. Personally I don't think there is enough to warrant re-opening

 

In combination with the crypto currency section it could be fairly active and add a little bit of differentiation and stimulate the section, even the crypto currency is headed into the inactivity the asset & investment section had before it was removed. I just found the section and it allowed discussion of what I listed in the first post. I still think it would be a good idea to incorporate cryto currency in to a more general forum and finance in my opinion is the closest to that and allows discussion about other topics which can't regularly be discussed in other sections at the moment.

 

I would LOVE this. I don't remember such section existing, either it was before my time or I just haven't seen it, I wouldn't be able to tell what sections exist as I don't really look to see but I would definitely engage in the finance sub-section if it were to exist. I'm very much into investment and it would benefit myself as well as others.

Honestly don't think this is a big deal but someone could probably just rename the cryptocurrency section to include assets and investment to fulfill your request

I think this would be a great idea considering that most of the users on Sythe are in Uni and would need financially related advice.

I think having a more general finance section would create more of a discussion, rather than just assets and investments since it would allow discussion about the previous areas I listed.

Yeah but I think realistically it wouldn't have enough topics to warrant its own section. It's more about the need to be merged with another section rather than the naming, if you think it would work better as "Finance and cryptocurrency" that sounds good to me

 

That would work, crypto currency is losing interest as well at this point and honestly its most relatable to finance since its a currency.

 

Support, some variant thereof sounds good to me. I suggested an "Investments and cryptocurrency" forum a few months ago, but I guess you're more popular than I am .

 

I'd like to see this implemented. We're all pretty young on this forum and into making money, so I'd think a finance section would appeal to Sythe.org's demographic.

 

Very applicable to the nature of this forum, seems like it would be a good idea.
