Does anyone else collect any rocks & minerals?

I just went home for the weekend for Easter from being away for college, and was going through some of my old stuff. My grandfather was an avid mineral collector and had an entire workshop with grinders and polishers. Throughout my childhood he gave me a lot of really nice rocks and minerals, and they brought back a lot of childhood memories. He's not doing very well right now due to his bad health and age, and the rest of his collection is in his will to go to me (as well as display cases and all).

Although I'm certainly not excited for that day to come, I feel as through when it inevitably does, I should start collecting more and keep his big display case intact as a reminder of him. Even through I'm sure a lot of it is worth quite a bit of money, I wouldn't be able to sell it. My only problem is that I don't know the names of them all, I wish I did.

Does anyone else collect any? I can upload some photos of some of my stuff later, but he has easily 2000x what I do, so my collection will grow like crazy soon. Upload photos of what you've got! And list the names/types if you know them.

 

First thing that came to mind was Hank from Breaking Bad

I do not collect them but I really do enjoy them. When I was younger I bought a polisher and collected like 15 really amazing rocks and had hid them somewhere and for the life of me cannot find them. It's annoying because they were really nice and looked cool.

I never collected seriously but probably have a handful of tupperwares full of cool rocks. I also found a really nice piece of granite last week walking home from class that I kept. And ^, I also have several amethysts

 

Yeah I used to when I was younger, and lived near the beach. I used to collected weird, and unique looking rocks and coloured pebbles. Until I wrongfully picked up a jellyfish banked on the sand.

Worst mistake. Never done it since.
