Personally I've always been fond of Mybb and xenforo.

 

It's not a deal breaker for me, as there really is no "deal" any more. I just wanted to stir the pot. Run MyBB for all I care lol.

An updated version of vBulletin would be nice

 

Notification would be amazing, that and the mobile are my biggest issues. Mobile doesn't show all info on users, just shows mini ranks, avatar, and user title. Can't see if they have a Skype, # of post counts, join date, or location.

That and the Skype inidcator added from the profile should be able to indicate if you are online skype as well.

The Sythe Chat is a good idea, a big chatroom where everyone on the site can communicate, but maybe subsections inside the chatroom to specify chat into groups such as MMOs, Price Check, Middle men, things that generalized the main structure of the site. Something like that may make help, or might not.

 

Using the notifications for everything from @mentions to people quoting you or people posting on your thread or whatever would be great.

 

Just pointing out that with this thread, the answer of why sythe would always use vb was along the lines of 'I paid for it once, nobody wastes cash buying something and upgrading it, you're such a child'.

 

No it isn't, you are just retarded. You should never upgrade production software without good reason. All you are going to do is break it and make it have less functionality. The burn it to the ground mindset is prevalent in young developers because nearly all code is absolute shit. I refactored a small piece of our frontend code at work and it took forever to get it working correctly and I found at least 5 or 6 major bugs in like 120 lines of source code. What the hell value did the application get from this? None at fucking all. It worked fine before. I did it because it taught me a fuck ton and I had nothing better to do.

The reason Sythe will always use vB is because just getting another package working will take a fuck ton of work. Getting all the custom functionality on Sythe working will take even fucking longer. Then you'll have to fix all the god damn bugs that get introduced. Then you'll add a plugin or something and it will just break shit with the custom functionality.

You have no fucking idea about the nature of software development. Fuck I've only been in industry for 3 months and I already have figured this shit out.

 

And this was the nature of the replies I got - 'you don't know shit, you're retarded'. Quite a nice attitude to have when IF YOU ACTUALLY READ THE FUCKING THREAD, you'd see that it was merely a question in the hopes of gaining knowledge. Holy shit.

 

XenForo has quite a good database converter and quite decent support should you encounter any issues, plus most of the 'addons to vb' that Sythe has are easily recreated.
