Let's say you run a big gold shop and someone charges you back or scams you a large amount. Would it be unethical or illegal to share any of their information and/or their documents with other top gold sellers so that they can prevent against it?

I would have nothing against it.
It might prevent any future scams from happening right? Which is a good thing I suppose.

A lot of them use fake ID's any way, how effective would it be?

Is it ethical and legal for top gold sellers to share information and IDs from scams?

Sometimes they don't, or they'll use their real phone numbers sometimes (some gold shops verify this). I'm basically wondering if any of this can be shared.

That would mean that they could never use that fake ID again, as it could come up flagged in our system if we already had all of the information from it from another shop that was scammed.

I don't see why it's any different than a paypal email or real name being posted in a scam report, as long as there was a scam report submitted.

If it happened to me I would warn people I frequently trade with that may be targetted by linking them the ID they used to con me (if it were to happen to me at least)

Prevents others from being scammed, I dont really see an issue with it.

Of course it's legal. There are international databases large online retailers utilize to help decrease "friendly" fraudsters as well.

I'm all for it. Better to let the other sellers know rather than having them find out via a scam.

I don't think it would be unethical. It's simply fraud prevention.

As for illegal I doubt it, but I have a feeling that could be avoided by adding that into their terms of service.

Would help a lot of people. I was sent an ID by a bond holder to help me when I started out on Sythe. I won the dispute because he had an ID I didn't.

    http://www.sythe.org/market-discussion/1500380-paypal-blacklist-making-trades-safer.html

Please post your disputes there. One of my procedures is always googling the email that they used to paid. If they have a history of disputing, it'll show and I can readjust my risk tolerance. Since we also have antifraud systems, we can rule out most of the hacked paypals as we will deny all VPN payments. No one in their right mind is going to use a hacked paypal from their home IP.

Post their name, email, ID, whatever. Put it in a paste bin. Any effort on your part will mitigate risk for all of us and keep the scum of this world out of our markets. It also gives them less incentive to scam as any employer will be able to find their fraud attempts if they do a background search.

If you give someone your ID and all of your personal information and then steal from that person, it's reasonable to believe that your information will be shared. We could always add disclaimers to gold shops stating exactly that.

They voluntarily gave us this information. I even tell my customers that I will release their info to anywhere I deem fit, and they agree to it. Anyways, a person conducting "friendly" fraud deserves some damage. Maybe they will think twice before scamming people in the future.

Depends on how legitimate your gold website is; if you have a privacy policy you should clearly state this, and then it won't be unethical. However, even then, I don't think it's legally advised to publicly post a customer's information. At most you should be able to enter it into a database for anti-fraud or contact third-party debt collectors. So to sum all that up, you can do that as long as you say you can share information with third parties.

I think it would be more unethical to not release this type of information, but sometimes fraud occurs without the sender's knowledge. How would you prevent releasing of pictures if they were legitimately not the one committing the fraud, but a victim of identity theft?

Although perhaps not completely ethical on the whole customer data confidentiality side of things I don't think there are going to be many people complaining besides people who plan/have scammed and in which case is not an issue.

True, people that want to make a legitimate business shouldn't have any problems with this, as they won't be affected at all by this. Definitly support.
