Make hacking announcements noticable

With that argument, why even mention that it's hacked at all? You guys argue that someone seeing a hacking is gonna turn them away but isn't the point of your announcement to be that people see it? What's wrong with making it more visually noticeable? And if you wanna pull the whole argument that people should request PM's, then why even bother notifying people of a hacked account. Just let them get scammed because they didn't get a PM. At least come up with better counter arguments... wtf?

 

It's pretty noticeable where it is. Anything more and you risk making Sythe look like a super scam-heavy community. We could create a sticky of staff/important traders who are compromised, but I feel like that's not gonna be that useful for most people.

 

Image is more important than security. Okay. Got it..

 

This would be good...but the thing is, normally even if a high profile user is hacked, they get banned pretty quickly when staff notices so nobody trades them. Wouldn't this just solve the problem? The thing with staff getting hacked is that they don't get banned title on sythe. Maybe they should until everything is cleared up. Not sure why they are exempt as being banned is often a safety precaution.

 

Super scam-heavy community is already seen when someone goes to the report a scammer section. Lets be honest, people still join this site despite that. Not like making Dave's skype hack more noticable would do any bad.

 

Why not only send it to users active in the past (2?) weeks?

 

I woudnt want a pm for each hacking... Would be annoying at the end.

A pop-up that appears once is better.

 

This would actually be a smart idea, although the front page for all hackings? No. Just a short automated PM from mods would work out nicely.

 

I have suggested that us moderators can use an "autotool" on hacked members that changes their user title, signature, and avatar to "Hacked do not trade" in large red letters in one click along with the ban.

On the homepage it's not really ideal as it could potentially sway potential members away from the board.

 

This seems like it would be a good idea. There's no real way to abuse it (like mods editing user titles could), and it's relatively hidden to new members but extremely visible to those in a trade with the user.

What was the reason for it not happening? Did it just get added to the end of that ever growing "to-do list"?

 

I would support this if there were a switch between "banned user, show everything as do not trade" and "normal" that staff could flip.

 

Yeah the UT seems like a great alternative if the banner idea doesn't pan out. Would love to see this added! I don't do trades anymore but there should always be improvements to awareness.

 

Maybe matt can even add it to the system he just finished... that would be neat

 

I know it's a rare occurrence and I'm not expecting this to be high on your to do list but some recognition of the issue would be nice ;]

Well, thats sythe for you. the new users should have the information the current users already have.

 

I think what we have works okay. Usually hacking announcements get a thousand+ views, even if the title tells the whole story - so it's probably several times that figure.

The people who fail to see these announcements are the same people that would probably fail to see a one-time banner or something similar.

 

Agreed, I don't think a change is necessary.
