Meh I was involved in a big discussion with Dave, Russian, Entrr, and Jon after the fact, and we found some pretty conclusive proof that it wasn't Dave that did it, if that's what you're hinting at.

The only thing that remains is whether he's responsible for paying it all back or not since 1) one of the parties "scammed" may have been responsible (at least partially) and 2) it was not his Sythe account (although he did send a PM prior).

It's a sticky situation.

 

Ultimately, It was his skype hacked. From what I read everyone is responsible for security over their skype regardless if in a staff position or not. If anything, he should be held more liable.

The rules were changed and you're only responsible for your Sythe account now, not your Skype. But it is different because he sent a PM immediately prior - that's what's being discussed since it has never happened before.

Oh I wouldn't know about rule changes updates. I just gathered from other posts you're responsible for skypes. (which you should be)

He PM'd, if it wasn't him he shouldnt of pmed. If it was his sythe account hacked he should be held at fault 100% no questions asked in my opinion.

 

It's a lot more complicated than that.

Dave was middlemanning a trade, and was hacked mid-trade after he sent the private message but before he collected the items being traded. It's believed (and there is some evidence) that one of the users in this trade was the hacker, making this a confusing situation where Dave is unsure of who he has to re-pay. Usually I'd be the first one to point fingers and call out the moderators for unfair decisions (I'm looking at you Leanbean) - but this one is valid imo.

Leanbean scammed a user $2,000 and claimed to be hacked, but the evidence was inconclusive so the mods didn't do anything (even though we can all tell it actually happened).

I understand its terrible for all parties involved that this happened but look at it like this.
If I middleman a trade for 07 gold and I get banned after I receive the gold (and can provide proof I got banned for RWT) I'm not responsible for it.

 

I agree that it'll come back that he has to refund Russian, but what about Geir? There is evidence to suggest that Geir was hacked, and the person who hacked Geir did this trade and then hacked Dave. This guy has hacked a lot of people, it's possibly either Ooga or someone even more skilled - we were following his IP around the other day and it links to many accounts that have knowingly been hacked.

This is a privately owned business where issues regarding staff can be handled in any way the owner(s?) see fit.

Again, there is a reason a dispute involving someone in the upper staff who has a longtime reputation of being very trustworthy would be handled slightly differently/internally.
