Who are the best top laners right now?

I main top lane and any other tips for top lane are much appreciate thank you.

 

I see a lot of Maokai, Kennen, and Rumble in my games, and they're pretty strong.

My personal opinion is that Nasus is the strongest top laner though. He doesn't do too bad in a lot of matchups and there comes a certain point where you can't stop him from farming/taking turrets.

TOP LANE
(1) Irelia:
Pros: Incredible snowball potential, huge power spike with Trinity Force, 2 second stun, tanky (passive, R+W).
Cons:True damage falls LATE game.
(2) Hecarim:
Pros: Homeguard ganks easy on bottom, very mobile around the map, can take ignite for kill pressure along with TP.
Cons: Not as tanky as say Sion?
(3) Sion:
Pros: Tanky, good base damage, a lot of CC, solid when ahead or behind.
Cons: Easily outplayed.
(4) Lissandra:
Pros: Initiation, lockdown, zoning potential, Front line mage
Cons: Short Ranged
(5) Riven:
Pros: High Snowball potential, building offensively gives you defense (E), flash = dead carries. If very good riven player, this would be your #1 for top.
Cons: Need to be a good riven player, lackluster when behind

 

anything will be fine for soloq, however the meta is currently team fight oriented top laners so maoki,lissandra, irelia, kennen and rumble all work great

 

Kennen, Liss, Irelia, Rumble, Sion and Hecarim are all seeing a lot of play in the LCS at current.

 

Just won as Lissandra top vs Riven. I went 4-4-2 but overall won top lane. She's really good vs mobile AD/Assassin type people. (High plat/low diamond elo btw) Be sure to run TP though cause often you need to help your team secure objectives

 

This. stay away from riven if you're asking what a good top laner is chances are you're not a riven player

 

Irealia is my main she is very good and eh xin.

Pretty much all meta champions have already been listed. Going to throw out there that leblanc top counters most of those champions, and if you take ignite and pressure them early, it will be very hard for them to survive before getting MR.

 

Riven / Liss / Hec / Irelia

 

Lissandra is a pretty solid choice these days

 

As many stated already, those frequent top laners listed in this thread are pretty much what's in the meta right now.

Although, personally, I'd say just play your comfort picks and what laners your good at. I can understand if you want to improve on top laning--but I feel that you probably should stick to playing champs you can play well with. The meta picks are just currently the game's focus orientation, but it doesn't mean you couldn't try other top laners.


Edit: Also, a lot of top lane is now focused on split-pushing/applying map pressure and to do this it generally helps to run "tp" most of the time. It really depends on your preference but generally that's what you should get for sum spells--if not already. If you prefer to have 1v1 solo kills then ignite will help, but it will depend on your match-up and who you're playing. For instance, if you have high kill potential it could be good to go ignite. However, again it's preference. A good example is Riven, from what I've seen many go TP and that's what I usually go if I play her--others can may go ignite. Also, TP is just more useful mid to late game imo--ignite kinda falls off.

 

Also run tp. At level 1 on champs like mao, riven, sion, etc. you can kill wraiths for level 2, b for pots, and tele top.

 

Irelia, Sion, Rumble, Gnar, Lissandra, Riven, Maokai.

(depending on what league you're in Nasus too)

Really depends on who you're best with.

 

reksai, ad fizz, nidalee?

 

For a few tops not really listed, Shen, Nidalee, and Vlad.

 

Another one worth mentioning but is VERY situational; playing Vayne top can be really effective against bruisers with limited mobility, such as Renekton, Yorick, Darius, possibly Nasus etc. I wouldn't play it vs a ranged/caster top or someone with high mobility such as Riven/Irelia. (Unless you're an exceptional Vayne player). This will work if you have a tank jungler and a utility mid. (E.g Maokai JG and Morgana mid, you have the peel and the utility mage, just missing damage. A Caitlyn bot lane might not be able to do it alone so Vayne top would be a fine addition in this situation rather than adding a Renekton or Singed or someone).

Why?

- Can easily kite bruisers with Q and E.
- Maxing W basically says F-U to their armor stacking.
- Can deny them farm by simply auto attacking. They will fall behind and the enemy team will be short of that tanky powerhouse.
- Pretty good kill potential with a gank.
- Deals damage while taking none or very little (minion damage) in return.
- As a solo laner, she'll gain more exp and reach the infamous 'late-game Vayne' stage faster.

A few tips:

- You'll want to make sure you don't push too hard early on. Vayne is highly vulnerable to ganks at top lane without a support. Especially pre-6. Freezing the lane verse a Nasus, and hitting him whenever he tries to farm is SUPER EFFECTIVE. But they'll almost always ask their jungler for a gank so proper warding and not overextending is key.
- Make sure you get that 3rd auto attack when hitting your opponent; the true damage will really hurt them.
- About 95% of the time, you'll want to use condemn as a defensive ability. If they try to engage on you (e.g Renekton dashes forward), you'll want to smash him back and punish him for doing so. Or, when you're getting ganked, use it to push 1 opponent away so you have 1 less thing to worry about.
- Her ult grants a movement speed bonus; if you have to, use it to escape sticky situations as its on a short cooldown.
- Building BotRK is really good; the active just helps you further kite, more sustain, and more attack speed = higher frequency of getting that Silver bolts proc off.
