Speaking from experience, I feel like vouches mean very little in the scheme of things.

The most trustworthy individuals in the community earn it through time and site wide involvement, the market is just a small portion of this.

Adding to what I said earlier, you can generally trust that somebody with multiple trades up to a certaim value will not abuse your trust up to this level. For example, if you see that somebody has multiple vouches for $50 trades, then you can feel comfortable ttrustimg this individual with $50. Anything more is sailing into the unknown.

Frankly, my belief is that there are people who have a moral compass which prevents them from scamming and then a lot of those who are just looking for the right opportunity. So in any case, tread with cautiom, especially in black markets.

A person can change at any moment though. The person with 20 vouches of $50 value can have a really bad day, lose funds, etc. From there they can scam their next high value trade and say the hell with it.

It's gunna happen anywhere, every community comes with its scammers and members with bad intentions. It's just too easy for people to make a new account, and repeat the process. Sythe need to do more to prevent it.

Right, but you can be fairly certain he won't scam on a trade of $50.. whereas you cannot say so for a newcomer.

Yeah of course. You would definitely be more inclined to do a trade with the one with vouches rather than a newcomer, however just because a user has 20 vouches doesn't guarantee your safety in a trade. The same goes for people with ranks from donating.

Naturally, vouches are just there for you to help make a decision whether or not to trust an individual. Use your gut as a rule of thumb. Well I have and I have had no real issues since signing up here at Sythe.

On a related note, I find that people who go out of their way to add to thread titles and point out that they're "trusted", "donor" and so on are less trustworthy than someone who has less vouches. It's comes across as if they feel they have to fake their way into seeming more trustworthy to do business. Especially those who say they're a donor in their thread title because they donated 5$.

In comparison the traders who I would say are more trustworthy just pick a simple thread title, simple layout and let the user make the decision as to how trusted they are. Fancy thread titles aren't really needed to succeed despite common belief.

I also view donors as more likely to scam-quit when they've got a fair amount of vouches behind them. If I were to leave Sythe i'd not have 'wasted' investments in the site - If I had 50$ donor then I'd effectively be losing 50$ by leaving. I can see why some people would scam-quit in that situation.

    This ^

I am involved in the account market, and I've had to recover an account before on Powerbot due to chargebacks. Even without setting an email on the account, or having any JAG/Authenticator, just the IP and creation password was enough for me to get the account back. I recommend that you just buy from someone like Farcast, or ask for an account creation.

Sorry for your loss but using an OMM will not stop the seller from recovering the account. Just make sure in the future you buy from extremely trusted members.
