Where would you invest 150m?

Diversification is the only real answer. First you need to determine how much risk you are willing to take (how much you are willing to lose). Then you should take that number, which let's call 100M, and put it in various investment vessels. Mutual funds are your best bet for stocks. Trying to pick stocks is going to be fruitless unless you are an investing genius. Find a low cost passively managed fund with a lost cost ratio and stick a bunch in that. If you want to branch out into real estate or venture capital you can do that with your high risk money as well. You should also put some in International markets. Then with the rest of the money you should buy bond funds. US Federal bonds are the backbone of the entire financial system since they are the only asset that considered to be COMPLETELY RISK FREE. You will need to keep some money in a more liquid state, which you would do in a high rate savings account. You don't want to stick too much in there so you have to figure out how much money you may need to liquidate in a short time (if you buy a 10M house you will need a fairly substantial amount incase something goes terribly wrong and you need money today).

You can expect your risky investments to double in value every 10 years. If you are lucky you could do better than that but you can not expect that. You can not even expect them to double but they historically that is the case. So if you get it at 20, by the time you are 50 you'll have 800M from your 100M higher risk investments.

And open up some businesses to be able to also make a steady flow of cash whilst I sit on my ass and do absolutely nothing.

I'll make sure that my investment portfolio is diverse. Honestly, this isn't a really hard question because you can do almost all sorts of investing with that sort of money. If you had asked us instead with a much smaller sum, you'll get a lot of interesting answers. Personally, I would invest in properties, stocks (through mutual funds) and start developing real estate.

 

Buy a house, car, funthings.. ect then invest the rest in a steady stock

 

The essentials -> house, car, stocked up on food/water/potential-stored energy in the form of electricity, safehouse, air plane, boat.

Then the rest in making Mcdonalds and Tim Hortons Franchises

Um I would work at a Chik Fil a for the rest of my life, and live in a really nice extraganza one story home with a property, and enjoy life. Maybe I would invest in some come-up company to help them out.

 

buy land. population is growing and land is becoming less and less.the world is only so big so its a good investment.

 

Honestly, I would only use enough to live comfortably. I would still have a job... I'd by a good home, a great reliable car.. I would probably keep about $5 million in several bank accounts and maybe $1 million hidden in cash... I would only use about 10m and use the rest to invest in bonds and I would toss some in the stock market.. I would want that money to go to my family.. I don't want to be the rich one.. I would share it among my entire family and when I die, I would disperse my wealth among the people that played a role in my life

 

I'd buy as much land as I can. Where I live in Texas, the city's limits are constantly expanding making unused country land a lot more valuable since business's and schools are constantly being built as well as some of the largest neighborhoods you can imagine.

Why would you even invest 150m pounds? I mean that's enough for you, your kids, and generations to come... But if I had to do it - restaurant/bar chain around the country.

 

Because inflation? Because letting it sit in a bank account is stupid when it could be making money? Because bonds are safer than leaving it in a bank account? Etc? Etc? Etc?

 

A nice home which is isolated, lots of land. A big multi-car garage. Perhaps start a business or invest into eSports, and try and start an organization.
