I like it way more than I expected to. The push for the Mac was that I'm starting to work on iOS apps and rather than coding on a virtual machine/running a hackintosh/buying a cheap-ass 2007 mac that would piss me off, I bought a 2014 air. The developer tools (XCode) is only available on OS X 10.6 or later.

I've used a bit of linux (mainly tails) which was very minimal so I cannot really provide a Linux standpoint, but coming from Windows 8.1, it impressed me.

I'm not 100% sure where I lie yet, but I'm really enjoying OS X. It's quite sleek and very intuitive. It's also quirky. It's not like a few years ago where mac programs were hard to come by, practically everything I use on a PC is now available on a mac. Changing to a dock-like system at the bottom of the screen is weird, but there's an autohide option (I don't use it, frankly, I like the dock, makes getting to the main things I use easy.) Texting from my computer is also fantastic, I can text people (both iMessage and SMS) from here and I enjoy that way more than expected. The file hierarchy structure is similar, but instead of file explorer it's "file finder." It looks plain, but it's incredibly efficient. Their search feature (spotlight) is amazing. You can find whatever it is you're looking for incredibly fast. Idk about ya'll, but Windows search blew when I was looking for files or whatever else. (Ex on mac: I couldn't find a setting to change minimization settings since the article I was viewing was outdated, literally took me 3 seconds to find via search on here.) I also understand the hype behind Apple's trackpad now. I've had a ton of laptops, and no trackpad has responded like this one has. All the gestures work a+.

It's incredibly light, and the haswell i5 clocks at 2.7 ghz so it's not incredibly slow. I don't imagine I'll do any gaming (I got a ps4/xbox one/wii u anyway), but it's definitely sufficient for school/work/whatever else I do.
Edit: Saying "it's not incredibly slow" doesn't do it justice. The PC is plenty fast and I haven't ran into any usage problems. Again, I don't expect it to run any games on insane mode.

Honestly, I think it's a great laptop and I may actually enjoy the OS more than 8.1. I am looking forward to windows 10 though and excited to see what they can do with Hololens.

That turned out longer than I planned/expected it too, but yeah so that's that. I'm happy with the purchase and depending on what features the 2015 air has I may purchase it.

    Sold it ages ago bruh

I make enough money to afford one + I had a Surface Pro 3 before this which selling covered the costs so eh

+ that's a matter of opinion, I'm not an all-out Apple fanboy, but they do make some good products.

I must say I can understand the backing people have for Macs now. I've never owned one before simply because I didn't want to mess around with a new OS, but the quality is outstanding.

Hmm I have been thinking alot about switching over to mac. I'm just not sure, the big questions is do they last long. I have 3 or 4 msi/ alien ware gaming laptops sitting in my closet.

Have you ahd any experience with a desktop mac? I have been jumping from laptop to laptop I thinks its time to drop some coin on a desktop

I got mine yesterday and the transfer has been incredibly easy. I already got a grip on the OS and feel plenty confident to navigate around. From my understanding they do. Hell, go on eBay and look around. Macbook Airs from 2009 are going for a few $100's. I cannot imagine a PC fetching anywhere near that. I think these would make great student/work PCs, not so much a gaming PC.

Desktop/laptop mac are going to run the same OS (OS Yosemite.) I did look at them, and they're nice, but are quite pricy.

Hype, goodluck mans, you can also always hit up an Apple store and mess around with one of their computers.

If you're a student you can also get a discount (I believe it's like 10%)

These babies last forever. I've had mine since 2011 and not a problem with it ever. Extremely user friendly and definitely worth the coin.
