Would anyone be interested in an open source, extensible RS Client?

It's been years since I've played around with any form of programming geared toward runescape, but I have some downtime, and I got to thinking.

Would anyone have any interested in an open source, extensible (in the form of plugins), runescape client? The client would be written in C#, and for the most part be fairly lightweight. The only major things included with the base release would be the client itself, and some base plugins.

We would definitely be interested. If you built a solid, base program that could allow for plugins that's open-source, it would be pretty cool (kind of like the idea of WordPress)... Let us know if you do, we'll help you develop on top of the base program.

My only real issue I'm facing is with the new way the runescape site handles the client. It's a bit difficult to simply place the client within a browser window, and only the client. I may be able to make a loader in java that I embed locally, but I'm not sure.

I'm not sure what advantages are to having only this client over another, but you do know that runescape does have a pretty legitimate client to download and play at RsBuddy right.

I did exactly this about 2 years ago, nobody was interested. If you want some help on it though give me a shout, I'd be happy to write some client code or plugins for the project.

If you're going to do it, might I suggest you make it modular with Lua or another simple scripting language?

You could for example define module look-and-feel and other GUI shit in XML files, and code the modules in Lua - kind of similar to WoW plugins I guess. It'd not be hard to do given .Net supports reflection (so you can add methods dynamically rather than manually).

The system I had in my client used reflection with regular .NET class libraries, so you'd import *.DLLs which could modify the main client window or be a tool on their own. It was really cool, total bummer nobody was really into it. I had even created a fully documented and comprehensive function library built right into the client's executable to make normally complex addons turn into small projects that would take no time to complete.

I was thinking of something similar Blupig, and I remember that, it was back in the old "Cruels" days.

I write commercial and business software these days, but I've been interested in adding some new skills to my repertoire.

All the plugins would be written with .net and compiled into loadable dll's.

Blupig, if you'll pm me or add me on skype (same username as here), it'd be appreciated.
