The reality is, anyone could be making tons of cash if you were willing to work hard enough. Once the price of oil picks up, any of you could move up to where I live, get a job working as a picker in the oil field, work 12+ hour days for two weeks on one week off at a starting salary of $24/hour, and within 3 years be making $52+/hour if you don't fuck up. Add onto the fact that you're working around ~90+ hours a week, so 50+ hours every week is overtime pay meaning you're making time and a half, plus truckbucks and other daily payments you receive for just being onsite, and you could be clearing easily over $1k/day, Consider the fact you're ideally working 34 weeks out of the year (you have more full days off than someone working 9-5 m-f), and you're making around lets say $1100/day before taxes, that's $261,000/year before taxes that someone that only graduated highschool three years ago could be making, meanwhile his buddy who chose to go to school and get an undergrad degree is getting swamped in student debt and won't have a chance in hell to be making 6 figures for at least a couple years, and that's if he worked his fucking ass off in school studying to graduate with good grades and worthwhile degree, and then he still has to get lucky and find a good employer.

all in perspective. of course the price of oil could crash again and never recover and suddenly oilfield guy is completely unemployed, but again if he was smart with his money he could easily afford to go to school then and get a degree and do something else.

If oil goes back up. Quite a few people lost their jobs there when the drop started. I remember someone mentioning they were clearing $100k+ which is very good and their daily payment varied if they had work or not. I believe they still got paid just being there or something. They also mentioned you could be doing nothing for weeks, but he still cleared 6 digits.

I remember briefly playing a mobile game. Met someone, he was young dude (mid 20s) who spent a ton on games. I am talking 5 digits on a game he's played for a few months. He told me if that was a lot I should see what his boss spends on a different game. His job had something to do with oil, he had it easy as he moved up but I can't remember what it was he did exactly again.

 

yep, lotta people round here praying for that oil price to rise back up again. realistically it should, and this should be just another segment of the continual boom and bust cycle that makes the price of oil so volatile.

We first stopped in Austin for half the week and then stayed in Dallas for the remaining half.

I also checked out Texas University while I was in Austin, I like seeing other universities whenever I travel.
