    How I quit RS

Hey guys, I always see people wondering how to quit RS for good. Let me tell you my story. If you don't care, just don't read it. I started Runescape at the age of six. That is right, SIX! My older cousins played classic so I wanted to go give it a whirl, surely my competitive nature kicked in. I have a problem with trying to be the very best at everything so what turned in from a game become some sort of real life goal. I was excelling in every way, and in 2004 I got offered to be a PMOD so I took it. This didn't help the addiction because now I have a bigger reason to play. I wanted to help people play the game and do as well as I did so I kept on playing. It wasn't until three years ago when I decided I need to stop this game. All my friends were getting girlfriends (none of them knew I still played this shitty game) and I was alone "dancing in Varrock sq" with god knows who behind the other end, thousands of miles away. The truth was, I needed a reason to quit and I feel like it is the same for everyone else. I'm still a typical nerd, I study, I don't drink, I eat clean, I have glasses. Does that mean I couldn't get a girl? I was always interested in bodybuilding from before I played Runescape. I wanted to be like Batman "Rich with an Aventador and plenty of gainz" but in all seriousness I wasn't ready. I was always a late bloomer and I always believed lifting would stunt my growth so I waited and waited. When I finally hit my growth spurt, I had some confidence and I started talking to girls. I was still playing Runescape because It just to hard to let go. It wasn't until I went to Applebee's with this girl I loved and her friends. I remember being such a noob I couldn't eat because I was like nervous or something? I remember them laughing and saying, "You're a twig, eat something you're making us look fat!". That was the day I decided to hell with Runescape. It hasn't done me shit, all it did was help aid the fact that I was a skinny shit who got mad fun of by girls. The very next week, I deleted everything Runescape related and changed my password to something I wouldn't remember and joined a gym. I haven't looked back yet, the same nerd that girls laughed at were trying to get with me but of course I gave them no attention. What I'm trying to say is, everyone has a wake up call. A call from reality, look at the bigger picture. For me it was realizing that being a moderator on a game filled with 12 year olds is just lame. Try bodybuilding or any other positive hobby that can only do you good. I wish all of you luck, if you ever need to talk to someone who was in your shoes, drop me a P.M!

    How I quit RS

That was a good read. I am glad you made a positive change. By trying to achieve something in a video game, it takes away from the cool things you could of done in life, with real people! I was hooked as well when RS2 was out, sheesh I was young. The times were great making friends online, but it really did take away my time from doing other productive activities with friends and family. When the new graphics started rolling in and free-trade/wildy taken away, thats when I lost my interest and left. Then RS3 eventually came, or is it called EoC now? Anyways - When I heard the announcement of the Old School RS, I was instantly excited - the perfect dream of everyone I met 10+ years ago back in Varrock square, reminiscing together. I was excited to log in and see my long lost friends waiting for me on the other end. But as I walked cheerfully to Varrock sq in World 33, their was nothing...no one.....just...emptiness. No one bothering to stop and ask how your day is going...absolutely nothing. I was truly depressed by this, the game I loved and people I really enjoy being with, no longer existed. They simply moved on with life, grown up, evolved into mature young men and ladies. It made me question myself, "Why haven't I moved on? Am I the only one who didn't let go?". I was upset, and came to conclusion with myself that time goes on, and so do people. Now in 2015 the game is still a drug to many people, and I still play an old school private server from time to time.

Sorry for butting in, I wanted to express myself on this as well - as I feel this affect A LOT of people. I do have interest in hearing others stories, if that is okay with you OP?

Nice story to hear. Don't even need girls, just the fact that if you want to become something and get bigger and better things then push addictive things out of your life.

Glad you were able to improve yourself. There is a bodybuilder on youtube who has a similar story. He was really into rs typical skinny nerd and got into body building and now he has a big youtube channel.

Although having a life and playing rs aren't really mutually exclusive. You can play RS, you can hit the gym, you can talk to girls. I've been working out for 6-8 months now because Jack Goff got me started. I also got into PUA (pick up artist) forums and I've had a girlfriend for around 6 months now that I met doing one of the "plays" that I read. Also I play RS, although it went from like 10-15 hours a day when I was in middle school to 0-5 now that I'm in college

Any chance you could recover the account and sell/give it to a certain random person? :>

I think you should of sold the account.
But I think currently, I have quit RS just because I maxed my account and it was my only goal in the game. I really never cared about 200m in all stats, I think that's a bit excessive and just a huge waste of time. I don't regret playing the game and maybe I'll play again in the future hut for now, I'm enjoying League of Legends and other games.
Plus, I have to worry about my studies. I graduate this year from college so I'm fairly excited toget my degree and get a job.

This sounds like trading Runescape for a chance to get laid, once you get laid you will go back to Rs, I can bet on it :D

This sounds like an issue with self control not Runescape, or any MMO, being the general problem.

There are plenty of people that do things such as bodybuilding/lifting but also play Runescape. If you were unable to moderate it, which it seems like was your problem, kudos for quitting.

This is nice to here. I recently started playing again 3-4 months ago after a more than 2 year break. I got really into it again and call me crazy but once i got used to it I liked eoc. I think the real reason I started playing again was I was looking for something to fill my time. last april I got sober off heroin which I had been addicted to for 10 years (with a 3 year sobriety stint in the middle in which I was actually very into weight lifting-bench:335 DL:445 squat:405). about 2 months ago I realized that I was just playing way too much(like 10 hours a day while trying to do 16 credits in college). once i came to the realization that I was playing to much I made a strict limit of 2 hours a day max. I know I'm never going to get a comp cape with that schedule but I still do manage to have fun and have a life. I've had a few hot dates in the past month or so and begin hitting the gym hard again. so yeah some people can runescape and have a life and some people cant :p

Good for you getting sober and clean. I don't know you obviously but I'm proud of you. I know how hard that addiction is to kick because I've had friends die because of it.

We'd all much rather have you alive + playing RS than risking death on heroin.

Glad you could find a balance between gaming and real life, once you do, all facets of life are just generally more enjoyable.

I have a pretty good physique and I see girls quite often, didn't have to quit runescape for it.
