What? Neither of my internships nor did my full time job care. Nor did they care about my GPA. Nor did I give it to my school. Literally one of the best predictors of your SAT score is how rich your parents are. It's a worthless test.

No doubt that wealth correlates with scores. I think it's just the difference between competitive finance positions and competitive comp sci ones; a solid 20% of the places I applied asked for scores in applications. Btw, congrats on graduating, think I read that somewhere.

Then the people doing the hiring for those firms are utterly asinine. The SAT score tells you nothing except for how well you can prepare for a standardized test and how much money your parents have to spend to be able to prepare for the test. Maybe financial firms just want to hire mindless drones that are able to perform these menial tasks well.

And Google has shown that GPA has basically no correlation to engineering skills and yet plenty of places still want people with 3.5s or better. It's utterly retarded.

Firms need some quantifiable metrics to be able to point to in order to help defend themselves from discrimination suits. There are obviously other reason to ask for GPA and scores as well, but this is certainly a factor.

Oh that's a good point, hadn't thought about that. Many firms have just started creating their own tests as well. I guess the approach is "more good people will have more good grades and therefore are more likely to have better GPA/SAT scores, so let's stick with them" for lots of firms.
