Periodically OMMs are checked up on and if they're inactive for X period (can't remember exactly how long it is) then they lose the rank and have to do Y amount of trades to get it back.

Just to dispell this whole inactivity regulation stuff - there's not a strict policy on removal of the rank/underline symbol (used to show who the active middlemen are) and it is as follows -

3 months of not MMing (regulated by myself through posts on mm thread, vouches, etc.) = removal of underline that symbolizes whether a MM is active.

3 months of not logging on = removal of the rank itself

You may be asking why do we keep the one's who aren't active? It's because a lot of them are veterans who assist in the new voting system/discussion related to OMM discussion in the lounge itself.

As for the application and the whole issue with the section being dead - I don't think that's entirely true. When I was trying to complete my apps I would bust my ass when it came to MMing. Sometimes MMing a few trades at once, and I always tried to keep my application updated.

A lot of the applications aren't completely filled out but that's also because a lot of the trusted users can't be bothered with it. Which is totally fine, but those aren't people who want to become OMMs, which is their decision.

Again, I'm willing to change the application to assist with the difficulty to find such a single large trade, but I don't want to make it that much easier. The OMM rank is prestigious, you may say it's the same as a staff member rank but in my eyes it's not. Anyone can be a staff member, and I don't mean that in a bashing way at all. It's just that being an OMM comes with certain skills and knowledge in a specific "field" on Sythe

Thanks for being active in this discussion, Dave. It's good to have the HOMM around for this :p.

Granted, it's not entirely dead, but there have been 2 complete apps in the last year, and both were by fairly well trusted users. I don't think the problem was the app itself; if you make the application easier, more noobs will apply, and almost all of them will get rejected after completing their applications due to lack of trust; making the app easier is not productive if everything else stays the same. I was totally devoted to getting OMM until this summer, and then I decided to drop out of the market for "doing other things makes me happier" reasons. But I don't think the pool of people applying for OMM and trusted users are really different at all (trusted users are the only ones who bother with it imo).

I get that you guys don't want to get rid of the idea of OMMs, but I really don't see a way past the impasse we're currently at. Either you make the app easier and more unqualified people apply, or you keep it as is and no one applies :/. There's just not the same level of incentive to get the rank, from a monetary or community standpoint, as there was in the past.
