    I want To Lose Weight

    Hi,
    I'm a 13 year old boy.
    I have good grades A-B Average.
    I play on the computer in my spare time when I'm not hanging out with friends.

    I don't have access to a gym or anything like that.

    I'm not overweight or anything because I'm tall for my age.
    I'm 6 foot 2 (185cm)
    I weigh somewhere in between the 80-85 kg range

    I'm pretty fast, like I can carry my weight and stuff but I get tired out pretty easily.

    Not only this but I feel like the computer is slowly taking away my life. I don't practice my guitar for lessons, (Got a D in it because I didnt show up to lessons for a term cause I didn't know the song),
    I'm always in my room, I don't have time for family anymore.

    I'm not addicted to it or anything I'm just sooo bored that I resort to playing on the computer.

    I'm quite skilled in programming and web design + gfx so the computer has definitely taught me stuff, yes I got an A in my computer pathways rank 8 in school.

    I just want to lose weight and not be on the computer so much..

    Could anyone recommend me any good exercises and methods to lose weight.

    Also if you have any tips to get less addicted to the computer that'd be great.

    Whats 85kg like 180 pounds? If u dont have access to a gym or any weights at home just start running every morning and eat healthy. Dont worry bout ppl tryna talk sht lol if ur dedicated itll be easy to lose weight. Dont expect it to happen in a few days tho, just find a good routine and as months go by ull see ur self improving. Btw 180 lbs at 6 feet 2inches isnt even bad, you could be a beast if u got someone to take u to a gym especially at 13.

    Try taking up sports.

    During highschool I was a part of 5 sports teams per year.
    It forces you to be active. especially cross country.

    For getting fit:
    Make it a habbit to run more. Atleast 20 minutes per day. Also there are plenty of exercises you can do without having a gym. Just search online.

    For Getting off Computer:
    Go for longboards/Stake/Bike because you can go a long distance with little effort.

    No, don't do cross country. Don't "do" sports. If you're 180+ pounds at 13, you're going to struggle with these sports, fail (not pessimistic it's only reality), and end up hating physical activity for the rest of your teenage years and put yourself down. Find something you actually enjoy doing that's physical, don't just join random teams for random sports that you don't even like.

    You're obviously going to have to focus on your diet, but do not go on a diet per se. Meaning, fix your eating habits but don't start starving yourself. You're young and a lot of kids your age can be a bit overweight. Now the challenge is to make sure that doesn't continue in your later years. I don't even remember myself at 13, so trust me this will be put far behind.

    Most people are going to start giving you long lists of things to do, exercises to perform, weights to try out; don't do it. You're too young for that kind of muscle building stuff. Furthest I'd go at your age is to try and do some push-ups and sit-ups every day. I really doubt you're 6"2 at 13, you're probably ball parking but if you really are 180 isn't THAT bad. I've got the opposite problem of you, I'm underweight except I'm 18, 6"2 and 125 lbs.

    Find a hobby you enjoy doing outside. When I was your age I loved biking, and I still do. Try doing it around your neighborhood every day. After a week, extend that and go twice around your neighborhood. Keep pushing yourself week after week and go further. This isn't necessarily to lose weight alone, however a mixture of physical activity, a healthy diet, and getting off your bum will surely help.

    Set your mind to it and you can do it bud. You're gonna start having lots of girls on your mind so you better get fit for 'em ;)

    Sorry, the converter I looked at was wrong. 6 Foot 2 is 188cm I'm only 185cm :eek:

    And I don't find it difficult to do sports. I enjoy most sports like: Soccer,Afl,Rugby,Basketball,Cricket

    In fact I'm quite good at them, don't struggle at all.

    Gotta admit tho, I hate that fucking cross country, but like I said I can run fast I just find it difficult to carry my weight over long distances

    Hey bud, hit up a sport that you like and focus on it like you do on the computer. Its really cool that youre stepping up against it,thats good initiative, dont let it take over your life. Now, excersize is the biggest part of my life and i can tell you this, you dont need a gym for the most part, specially at your age and trying to lose weight, so stay away from it, best thing you can do is running, calisthenics, and swimming, you should do this along with whatever sport you please and all of this will help you loose weight. Also fix your eating habits, cut down on candy and such. Last you dont have to work out every day, but make it a thing to get active every day, not just stay at home and do nothing.     I've started eating alot healthier. Of course me being 13 I don't have much choice of what I eat for dinner but instead of chips I've started eating bananas and instead of soft drink I've been drinking water. Sure this'll stop me from gaining weight but I want to lose it. I'm going on holiday today, hopping on the plane in a few hours and I'll be doing alot of fishing ,swimming ,canoeing and walking for 16days so I guess that'll help. As for sport I need to look for a team suited for me. Because it's the end of the year I guess now is really the best time to find a sport. I'd love to join a basketball team, especially with my height! Would basketball be enough for me to lose weight?

    Weight is not a figure of comparison. It is all about how fit you are , how much stamina you have and most importantly how you think of yourself.

    You probably don't do physical activities much and spending time on computer makes you feel unfit and all.. so you feel like reducing weight.

    Trust me dude , start jogging , start participating in sports and get that fat furnace burning. Be patient and results will surely be there. For record , take pictures every week and see the body transformations you go through , they will motivate you a lot. Do swimming , jogging , running , and some exercises like pull-ups , chin-ups , push ups and you'll be all fine :)

    Any sport has the ability to help u lose weight OP, just how intense the trainings r gonna be that's gonna determine how much weight u lose. If u eat healthy and do regular exercise, losing weight should not be a problem. As for computer games, don't make them a priority, yea u do it when ur bored so try n find something else to occupy ur time. You say u don't spend enuf time with ur family so maybe replace computer time with family time if their not busy? Or u could even replace it with exercise like going for runs and walks in the park, even if u don't have access to a gym u can always do ur own exercise, push ups etc to help u. Gl Op :)

    Ay man, I'm new to the forums but I'm looking to become a nutritionist and know a thing or two about fitness. At your height your weight seems proportional. The thing that you may see is that you're "skinny fat" which means your weight is fine but you have more fat than muscle and getting any skinnier would make you twig like lol. I was once an ectomorph (skinny and unable to build muscle) but began dieting and lifting and managed to put on strength and good weight. I recommend you eat healthy, high protein and lower your calories while you do bodyweight exercises like pushups, chinups, etc until you can find a gym. Hope this helps!

    Discouraging someone from playing sports is never okay, you should honestly be ashamed. Someone's weight & height isn't even a good representation of their overall fitness level, that's something that is very subjective. With that being said OP shouldn't just join random teams for the sake of it, you have a good point there.

    He's not too young for it if he so chooses to do it, there is no age requirement and as said to Roary above - the whole theory regarding it stunting growth has been disproven. Merely doing sit-ups and push-ups is counter productive and a waste of time however.

    There ya go, pick one or two of your favorites (perhaps 1 in winter 1 in summer?) and run with 'em. Not only will you get extra exercise but are forced into a group setting with your peers helping you to socialize with them and make some friends. The actual time playing sports is time not on the computer and if you make some more friends then you can spend time hanging with them instead of on the computer.



    Do you actually want to build muscle or are you just looking to lose weight OP?

    Staying active in sports is your best bet because not only will it help your weight problem but it will get your mind off of the computer a lot. I'm a senior in high school and I've participated in 4 sports a year since I was about eight years old.

    Eating healthy is one of the best ways to lose weight without needing to go out to the gym or participate in sports. If you include rice in your diet, I would suggest cutting that out and always eat self-cooked, home-cooked meals. Avoid Fast-food restaurants.

    Also, if it makes you feel better. I've also faced a computer/xbox addiction during my younger years but because of extracurricular activities such as sports, I was able to maintain my addiction, unfortunately ;), while staying healthy and fit.
