What is your favorite book?

I don't read books often but I really liked Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald.

 

I've been meaning to add that novel to my list to read. Fun fact: it is supposedly the first ever novel to be published in English. Another fun fact: it was published under the title: The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, Of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, wherein all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver'd by Pyrates

 

Today id say one flew over the cuckoos nest, first read it about 6 years ago and have reread since a few times. Reread it last week so its still fresh in mind.

I'm also partial to HST and the beat movement. I also enjoy reading true crime and philosophy (primarily existentialism.).;

 

The Redwall Series, especially Martin the Warrior novel; REDWALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL; FUR AND FREEDOMMMMMMM; EULIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!

 

Hunger Games! I liked the book a lot but the movie wasn't really that good compared to the book.

 

I love the novel Jumper and Reflex. Probably some of you have seen the movie "Jumper", well this movie is based on this book by Steven Gould. I am currently on Impulse right now, the third one if you skip the short story of Reflex as I personally count that as apart of Reflex. I think there is a fourth one not sure yet. The book is MUCH better than the movie. Goes into so much more depths and a lot more loopholes are filled in. Check it out.

 

Sigh at all these people posting about some really awful new hyped "literature", I was hoping to at least get some good suggestions on a new book to read

 

What sort of stuff are you interested in book wise?

 

You can always give Tolkien a try/Go back to Tolkien. I read Lord of the Rings when I was nine and I absolutely adored it.

 

CHERUB series, been reading it since I was a kid, always loved it.

 

Gonna add Siddhartha (Hesse) to the list as well.

 

Dark satire kind of stuff. I enjoy authors like Kurt Vonnegut. Read all of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and found it interesting, nothing special though.

I added OFOTCN to my list, it's a classic I've been told to read a ton of times.

 

To kill a mocking bird, or Spirit Bear

 

Read Hunter S. Thompson then. He is an acquired taste, but he is funny as hell and an entertaining read.

 

Oh and also Horace's Odes

 

OFOTCN has a lot of reread potential, it truly is a an american classic. I'd suggest Aldous Huxley, particularly the works Brave New World , Brave New World Revisited and Island in that order. Brave new world was written in '32 and realllly foreshadowed a lot of future events.. many of which were recapped in revisted. Island is just a slightly satirical utopian novel.

Going to +83828%938266272299594928 Nero's suggestion for Hunter S. Thompson. HST was a genius. For a first time reader of his id suggest Fear and Loathing or Hells Angels. His political and journalism works contain great nuggets but are generally kinda offputting at first unless you are actually interested in late 70's and 80's politics lol.

Already read it, oddly I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

 

Unfortunately i'm an uncultured swine so it'll have to be the ASOIAF series by George R.R.Martin (Or, Game of Thrones.). I just enjoy fantasy.

 

I've read a lot of books over the course of my short life...I've loved books by various authors, Darren Shan- vampire assistant, Percy Jackson series , Harry potter books, Pittacus Lore, Cherub by Robert Muchamore...So many books.

I loved Michael Morpurgo as a child, he wrote some fantastic books, Roald Dahl of course and the book the boy in the striped pyjamas....I must have been what- 7? I actually cried when I read it.

Loved Lemony Snickett, has some amazing vocabulary, ideals and quotes in there.

More mature reading; I loved reading the Hobbit etc by J R Tolkein, I have a 60 pound collectors edition.... Dragonstone Chronicles and I also read War and Peace at 14...It took my a good couple of weeks but I thoroughly enjoyed it...
