Guide To Distinguishing 'Rare' Display Names:

What is a 'rare' name?

A rare name is an original display name on RuneScape. The rarest names are the most
sought after names that everybody wants. Preference in names is different from
person to person, saying which name is more or less original is hard. This guide is made
just to help to tell which are said to be better names than others, and can be used as a guide
to price names for sales. If a display name is free on RuneScape, chances are its not 'rare'.


What types of names are considered 'rare'?

1. Words - Commonly used words, names of things you use everyday, colours, and so on. In saying this,
just because a name is the same as a word in a dictionary doesn't mean it's 'rare'.

EG: Rocket, Green, Skate, Money.


2. IRL Names/TV show characters/music bands/famous people - Names of such things are considered
rare as nearly everyone wants their own name as their display name, or favourite actors name,
or favourite artists name.

EG: Matt, Charlie, Tupac, Barack Obama.


3. Countries/well known places - For obvious reasons these are rare, as who wouldn't want to have
their own country as their display name. Though in saying this, if you live in a small town/country
unknown to most, it wouldn't be considered as 'rare' to better known places.

EG: America, Australia, London.


4. Abbreviations - Abbreviations which are commonly used, internet 'slang' or whatever.

EG: Lol, Ftw, Ok, Pm.


5. 2 digit names - 2 digit names are rare because they're short, and most are taken etc. Common words
made out of 2 digit names are considered the most rare of 2 digit names, compared to those with numbers,
and random letters.

EG: Yt, Me, Yo, Kk, Xx.


6. 1 digit names - Considered to be the rarest names of them all, only 36 of them which were available to make.

EG: 1, 2, 3, A, B, C.



7. Multi-spaced names - As you are unable to change your display name on RuneScape to a name with more than
1 space, multi-spaced names are rare. All these accounts use the same login name aswell.

EG: L---O--L, X----X, Run---E.


8. RuneScape related words - Words that are related with RuneScape are rare, such as skill names, items,
PKing terms, and so on.

EG: Rune, Attack, Ags, Pker, Oak.


What makes a name less 'rare'?

1. Numbers - Sometimes numbers in a name do make it rare, (for example the name 'Blink 182') but in names
with numbers replaced for letters or a word with numbers at the end it is considered less original and
not rare.

EG: Swordfish393, Mmo3xch4nge, Rabb1t.


2. Random 3 digit names - Been seeing names with random 3 digit letters getting considered rare, a lot are
available to get right now and are not rare.

EG: Fjd, Rpv, Bci.


3. Common words with an added S, Ed, Ing - Some are infact rare, (for example Owned) but most are just
second and third best options to the desired word they were going for.

EG: Lols, Examples, Checked, Attacking.


4. Made up words - For the fact their made up and not many people would really want the name other than
maybe you.

EG: Pkzor, Viold, Foated.


5. 1 character spaced names - A lot of spaced names are in fact rare, (for example Ice Cream) but usually when it's two
words that you might find in a sentence it loses its originality.

EG: Killing You, Im The Best, I Am Matt.


Other information:

Display names are the character names of your RuneScape account. The above is not talking about your login name,
but in saying so if you have a login name that fits the criteria of the above it is rare. Accounts with a 'rare'
login name and the same display name are considered more rare than accounts with a different login name to its 'rare'
display name. There is alot of exceptions for many names out there, making them somewhat rare and so fourth. If you need
to tell someone how the name is rare, then usually the name isn't as rare as what you're making it out to be.​

As long as these are legitimate words such as Attacking, they are considered rare. Great guide, seems like you put a lot of effort but I would tweak it a little bit if I was you

 

Wouldn't skill names also be rare? eg Summoning Constitution
